The Moon, A Mirrorball

The Moon, A Mirrorball
DESCRIPTION

The moon, a mirrorball, she sits so high

shimmering in the nocturnal sky

she leans down and drapes her light

over all the creatures of the night

creatures with fur, creatures with skin

creatures with scales, with horns and with fins

creatures with secrets, with dreams and sins

creatures who cannot see or hear

creatures whose eyes are set upon deer

creatures whose neighbors only see them as queer

they hide in the dark because, like us, they fear

they fear the sun and those who dwell in his sphere

the sun demands truth, demands all of your soul

he burns you alive just to bear you as whole

but the moon demands nothing, for she always sees all

she knows us all, speaks to us all

her voice is a whisper, a lullaby

in her silence she says, "Dear creatures, don't cry

you are all of your selves, your scars and your lies

and I love you for all that you are inside

I will keep you safe til you're ready to fly

And witness your honor from up here in the sky"
