This is because, in the past, people would create their own lyrics while singing, incorporating Minyo into their daily lives. Folk music was once a form of expression where anyone could freely compose lyrics and sing them.
It’s fascinating to imagine people gathering, with some being naturally good at singing and others less so, but everyone enjoying Minyo in their own unique way. Over time, certain lyrics became famous through recordings and gained widespread recognition. However, in the past, a single Minyo could be enjoyed with a much greater variety of lyrics.
The freedom to choose and sing your own lyrics is something we rarely see in modern music.
For newer Minyo like Tokyo Ondo, specific lyricists penned fixed versions, leaving little room for variation. Over time, Minyo evolved into more structured entertainment with show-like elements. But their origins lie in music created and enjoyed freely in everyday life.

このようにたくさんの歌詞が出てきます。そして、これが全てではなくてまだまだ無数に存在します。それは昔人々が唄う時に自ら作詞をして民謡を生活の中で楽しんでいた歴史があるからです。民謡は昔は誰もが自由に歌詞を作り、唄えた音楽だったのです。きっとその当時も唄の得意な人、苦手な人はいたと思いますが、人々が集い各々自由に民謡を楽しんでいたと思うととても素敵な光景だなぁと思います。レコードに収録されるなどして広まったものが有名になり、今ではメジャーになって残っている歌詞がいくつかありますが、昔はもっともっとたくさんの歌詞で一つの民謡が楽しまれていました。唄う時に自分で歌詞を選んで何を唄っても良いというのは現代の唄ではなかなかないことかもしれません。
東京音頭など新しい民謡は作詞家が決まったものを作り、それ以外には唄われないものもあります。民謡は段々と流行歌となりショーの要素も加わってきましたが、昔は人々が生活の中で自由に唄い、楽しむ音楽だったことがみて取れます。
