Josh started reaching for the knobs to get the water going when he realized something. The shower ledges, where he kept all of his bottles, were completely empty.
Riiiight. He frowned. Forgot. Used the last of the shampoo and conditioner yesterday.
He slipped back out of the shower and went over to the closet. Opening it up, he checked his supply of shampoo and conditioner bottles. Among them, there was one that caught his eye the most.
“Kingly Refreshing,” he said, reading the label. It was a large, absolutely gigantic green bottle. It said it was an all-in-one body wash, shampoo, conditioner deal.
Don't remember buying you. Josh took the rather heavy bottle and looked it over. The bottle was a mystery to him. Perhaps he had bought it a while back when it was on sale.
Eh, whatever. Whether he remembered it or not, it would do. He took it back to the shower and closed the curtain behind him again.
The faucets were turned, and the water ran. Getting it at the right temperature, he turned the showerhead on and let the warm, comforting water hit his body. He sighed, a sound more pleasant and relaxed now. He wished he could stay like this, worries and tension melting off.
But, ya know, there was the water bill and all that jazz. He lingered as long as he could before he got down to business.
Josh popped the cap on the bottle and squirted a huge glob of thick, green, jelly-like liquid into his palm. The goo felt strangely warm on his hands.
He didn't really notice or, if he did, didn't care. He put the bottle down on a ledge and let some of the hot water spray into his hands, splashing the shampoo. The heat of the water made the goo feel even warmer, tingly too.
Unknownst to him, some of that gunk soaked into his palms and fingers. The tingling spread, vibrating in his fingernails. A moment later, the nails grew. They extended out just an extra inch or two, thickening and swelling. They slipped down to the tips of his digits, reshaping themselves until they resembled stubby claws.
His fingers twitched, palms pulsing gently. Slowly, they began to swell, mass building and bulking up. Around the claws, orangish-yellow scales appeared. They flowed down the fingers, onto his hands, and down to his wrists before stopping.
