This is another short but sweet one.
Partly inspired by my friend Ivy’s work on Coquette Dragoon, and partly by my own desire to simply not have to draw all the chairs in this diner 13 times over the next batch of illustrations, I spent some time making a 3D mockup of Selené’s and figuring out how to coax Blender into outputting the type of flat-shaded, non-antialiased render I could use directly in my Clip Studio Paint workflow. The result is the illustration at the top of the page. I’m pretty pleased! The characters, foreground, coloring, and some of the background details are all still done by hand, but being able to find good camera angles and skip over a solid chunk of the flatting process feels like a powerful tool.
