Hello and hey and welCOME to one of hopefully not too many (because I'd like to get this finished!!!) process posts!!
First off, another audio sneak peak up above. This is from midway through the video -- as the song and story evolve, more diverse sounds get incorporated into the music. I've always thought chiptune and piano was a godly combination...
5/4 is traditionally considered a "weird" time signature, but I've been iterating on this track for so long it feels really normal to me now. It has a great rhythm to it, and you can subdivide it in fun ways.
This mixing is still very rough; it's my biggest weakness, and what I spend by far the most time on with music, but hopefully I can get it nice and buttery by the end.
The song idea actually came first -- the video kind of coalesced around it as the seed, because I realized I had an opportunity to give chapter 2 part 1 the kind of real "mid-season finale" it was missing in my drafts. I've mentioned this top-secret fact before probably, but chapter 2 part 2 will also end in a musical video, and it was preparation for that that got me on this whole music train to begin with. We're working backwards a little, but making a long form project like a webcomic is often like that.
As for what the actual video will be like, it's intended to be kind of like an animatic -- limited animation, more on the level of a storyboard. I wanted to make sure that it would still be readable as a comic, separately from the video, so you can think of it as a series of 16:9 panels. That said, I did want there to be some animation, and as much of a "cinematic" feel as I could muster, so it's a lot more "panels" than it might otherwise be.
Right now I'm still thumbnailing -- here are the first 10 shots in their messy messy thumbnailness:
It's not a lot to look at yet, but we'll see how these turn out down the line.
You might notice there's horizontal guidelines near the top and bottom of some of these. It turns out that my usual 6x9" comic pages are almost, but not quite, the right size to actually fit three 16:9 panels into. There'll have to be a tiny bit of vertical cropping for the comic version -- hence the guidelines, just to make sure I don't cram anything important too close to the edges.
