Showcase your skill with the Freeknight fighter!
Okay, I actually wrote this one awhile ago, but kept forgetting to put it up on Patreon. The idea here is a versatile warrior, the sort of professional mercenary who's adept with every weapon and in every sort of situation. You fight in concert with your allies, adapting your tactics to theirs.
At level 3, you get Mercenary Training, adding some proficiencies and giving you the ability to adapt to any theater in which you're deployed. The core feature at level 3 is Mercenary's Mark, in concert with Combined Arms. When an ally hits an enemy, you can apply a mark, which then gives your next bonus against that target a benefit based on how the ally attacked. Ally thwacked 'em? Your next ranged attack gets a boost. Ally attacked at range? Your melee strike gets bonus damage. Spell attacks let you deal magic damage, unarmed strikes let you stagger foes, and thrown attacks let you apply a slowing effect. As a freeknight, it's a great idea to have multiple weapon options so you can take full advantage of your allies' tactics. At level 7, you get Veteran Campaigner, letting you use your second wind to purge off harmful conditions. Merciless Mark at level 10 puts a little bonus damage onto Mercenary's Mark and grants you an additional fighting style. At 15, you get Single Out, giving you a defense boost and a frighten ability against an enemy bearing your mark. And Battlefield Leader at 18 lets your Second Wind and Action Surge trigger an ally to make a free attack.
As always, you're invited to come discuss and offer feedback on Discord!
