How dangerous can low-level enemies be when they use strategy and have a strong defensive position? Your players are about to find out! The Battle of Fort Caerhall is a travel encounter, written for players around level 5 but easily adaptable for higher-level parties.
The encounter centers on the battle for a well-fortified forest ruin, manned by a gang of hobgoblins. You can run it anywhere, and it should give your players a real challenge, as well as rewarding them for tactical thinking.
