With the world cup finally over I figured I'd uploads the drawings I made for the match results and extra shitposts in better quality here. I'm disappointed with the final match of course but I'm relieved I have the time to go back to other projects like Same Time Next Tuesday 0.4.0, art for Confuror and patreon extras.
First of all I drew the opening match of the tournament, Mexico - South Africa (2-0). I had drawn Mexico as a Xoloitzcuintl before because I think too many countries have eagles as their national animal and I didn't want to be redundant, so I stuck with it for consistency. I was watching the game on voice call with a bunch of Mexican friends so I figured, why not get started now? The text in Spanish says (roughly): "Suck on it, daddy! Look at those goals!"
The next one is Argentina's first actual match with Argelia (3-0), a very solid start. The text in Spanish says: "Hello, assholes! Did you miss me?", while the text in Arabic (an approximation of Algerian dialect) says: "Take it easy, it's too big!"
The next drawing is Argentina-Austria (2-0). For context, Argentina had a lead most of the match and then scored an extra goal in the last minute of extended time. The text, in Spanish and German, says "Was one not enough, little guy?" and "Bro! This is bullshit..." (Funnily enough I found out Austrians use 'oida' roughly the same way we use the word 'boludo', which was interesting.
Then we have Argentina-Jordan (3-1). The text in Arabic and Spanish says "I guess I'll pack my bags..." and "yeah, pack this one too!". I consulted on the Arabic text too late before the match so apologies if it came off stiff, did my best with the tools available at the time.
Then we left the group phase and things got interesting. Cape Verde was a team that came out of nowhere, tied every match in their group and we expected an easy victory, so I made this drawing of the argie capybara posing like Conquest from Invincible saying "Stand ready for my arrival, boludo" (the last word is hard to translate, can be used as a light insult, term of endearment, interjection, etc). Turns out Cape Verde played incredibly well so before drawing them getting fucked in the ass I made a little drawing of their goalie holding the golden glove, which he won at least in my heart (it went to the Spanish goalie in the end). The drawing for the actual result (3-2, went into extension) says (in Spanish and Portuguese) "Hey, you don't have one more dick do you? That way you cum once per goal", "Go take it up the ass" (would be more of a generic 'fuck you' but a literal translation makes the following line work), "Look who's talking".
We then went into the eighth finals, and at this stage, before Argentina played their match, Brazil and Mexico lost on the same day to Norway and England, respectively. I had gone out of my way to draw Brazil getting fucked by Croatia the last tournament so I figured rubbing it in again would be too personal so I settled for a quickie redraw of a funny Erling Haaland picture. I felt bad for both teams so I figured I'd draw them commiserating over the result. For our actual match we went against Egypt, who ALMOST won, with a lead of 2-0 up until the last 10 minutes and extension, where Argentina scored three times. I figured I'd draw them, accordingly, as jackal powerbottoms spraying Argentina's face in jizz, because they ALMOST made it. The text in Arabic and Spanish says "But we were winning!" and "... you were".
Then we move onto quarter finals, it was another difficult match that went into extension after a 1-1 tie, where Argentina scored two more goals. I ran into two challenges for this one: first, Switzerland doesn't have an official national animal, and second, their kit is almost all plain red, which isn't very interesting visually, so I figured I'd go with a Saint Bernard with a little keg of brandy with the Swiss flag on it. The text reads, in German and Spanish, "Dear God! Faster, please!" "Cheers, assholes." (again, boludo is a very polysemic word).
On the semifinals, Argentina faced off against England, which in my opinion spent a little too much time flipping and tumbling around trying to get Argentina penalized, so I drew them as a roughed-up lion crying over the 2-1 result. The text in Spanish reads, therefore, "less pirouettes and more goals next time!"
And then we have the final, which... I'm not happy about, not so much about the outcome, I think Argentina didn't play very well and we did live up to the reputation of being foul players here and there, I think if we hadn't lost a player to a red card we might have held off until penalties, who knows. Argentina ended up losing 0-1 to Spain, meaning this is the first time since I started drawing these in 2022 that I'd have to draw the argie capybara bottoming, which a lot of people expected I'd chicken out so I made a quick drawing of Argentina under the shadow of a giant dick, and got to work on the final drawing. The text in Spanish says "Cut it out man, you're going to bust my ass wide open!" "That's the idea, asshole!". I followed it up with one last drawing of Spain content with having avenged Cape Verde (Cabo Verde can be translated both as Cape Verde, the country, and green private, so people were making memes with the penguin character). The text says "Cape Verde... this is what you wanted, right? This is my promise I made for you."
