Lately I've been trying to be more open about what's happening in development. If you've not seen the previous ones, its a way for me to help feel less guilty when I don't get an update out in some arbitrary amount of time. Combined with that, it has helped me feel better about working on things that aren't necessarily the next need on the to-do list when the next thing on the to-do list is... something I'm hitting writer's block with, for example. Well, that was a bit of a ramble. With Oathbreaker, many of you know about the game. It's not my main project, but its an SRPG I make with Icarue that follows the TFTG journey of our protagonist, Pup. In many ways, the development of the game is super straightforward at this point. Details and some side content are all tbd, but the path to the end is clear and just a matter of chipping away at.Recently, we released a smaller update on Icarue's patreon (releases public two weeks after). So feel free to stop by there and pick it up! It focuses on the new supply run and implementing a Mirror system with content ready to go for the entire game. (Censored since patreon and all that)
Now, how about the future of the game? Right now, one of the undertakings we're doing is to fill out much of the rest of the planned art for the game, as we slowly work on creating the game proper. Its helpful that the plan to the end of the game is basically laid out fully. It becomes easier to know what art we need and start that process of filling it out.I'm not gonna show them here, though. I wanna be more open, but the snippet previews in the banner are, at least, some of them previews. And enough previews to take some guesses as to the nature of those art commissions, I think. So, that sort of sums it up? Chipping away at the content. Main story coming along, and supports being the anchor to everything, as a constant drag (it's fine, it'll get done when it gets done). Then, what about the future of stories in this world? It shares its world with Between, technically, but the Oathbreaker era itself is unique in its lore and people. We've had Bells & Whistles by Icarue that explored a short story before the start of said story, and I'm notorious for brainstorming future ideas long before they can be acted on.Well, in this case it's not really my fault. But we do have a story that'd act as a sequel to Oathbreaker. Circumstances not really for me to disclose gave me reason to explore the idea and I ended up becoming attached to it.
Enough so that I have this design to share: Great Grandma Pup.
Looking good for her age, eh? She is one character who would show up in my narrative plans.
A lot is undecided about the nature of what the game would even be, but it is something I am emotionally set on doing one day.
It will be a story of discovery. Set decades into the future as the world starts to enter its Age of Exploration, it'd follow a story of exploration of the identity, and discovery of who one truly is... along with insight on the nature of the world they live and history it holds from edge to edge.
And, of course... It'd have an airship.
Well, that's probably enough stream of consciousness rambling. As said before, really this is just a way to talk a bit more about what was going on behind the scenes. To make me feel like I'm more transparent on the work I've done so I can calm some of the burnout feelings I've had lately.
It's absolutely helped so far, and I plan to continue down my list of stuff to talk about as I go. When? Well, when the desire hits me enough.
