DESCRIPTION

Today, we have more concept art to fill out the Jakkari fleet. Along with the carrier, which has already been posted, the Jakkari operate many different classes of spacecraft, some of which are detailed here.

Jakkari Asteroid Base:Larger than any single ship the Jakkari have the capacity to construct, and more massive than any engine could move, asteroid bases act as mobile resupply hubs and staging areas for fleets operating in the system. The process of creating an asteroid base begins by locating a suitable body of the right size and composition, which is then hollowed out and equipped with the necessary systems. These include berths where ships can dock for repair and resupply, living areas to support crew, and extensive storage facilities for fuel, food, munitions, and whatever else a fleet might require.Defensive measures may include fighter hangars, point defense weapons, and some of the largest caliber gas guns the Jakkari can field. Coupled with meters of rock to act as natural armor, asteroid bases are a hard nut to crack, able to withstand considerable fire from the plasma-based weapons favored by their enemies. While such bases cannot move under their own power, vast arrays of engines are fitted to them, which can be used to nudge the base into a favorable orbit over time. These orbits can take them throughout the whole system, passing by specific planets or through conflict zones with predictable regularity. Together, potentially hundreds of these bases create a network of island fortresses that are never too far away if a fleet in transit should need to make port.

Jakkari Cruiser:Cruisers are heavily armed and armored craft designed for front-line engagements with hive fleets. At 425m long, they're only 5m shy of a UNN Jump Carrier, making them large, intimidating vessels. Armament between cruisers can vary due to age and refits, but common weapons include 12inch dual and 18inch single cannon light gas guns, 24 torpedo tubes capable of firing 80-ton projectiles, and several close-in weapon stations for point defense. The front-facing weapon configuration and push/pull engine design allows cruisers to launch their payloads and keep their radars on-target while decelerating towards an enemy position.

Jakkari Frigate:Frigates make up the bulk of the Jakkari fleet, serving as the most common ships of the line. At 305m, they're the smallest class of capital ship, but they still feature heavy armor and pack a considerable punch for their size. Frigates are usually outfitted with 12 torpedo tubes, 4 naval guns, and 8 point defense emplacements. Along with their push/pull NTP engine nacelles, frigates have supplemental engines intended to let them keep pace and reach cruising speed alongside larger vessels in their tactical group.Jakkari Destroyer:Destroyers are among the most heavily armed ships in the Jakkari fleet. With a length of 392 meters and almost the same beam, they are also one of the largest. Built around a catamaran design, the two hulls that flank the main body of the craft serve to house 32 vertical launch torpedo tubes, with sixteen per side. These differ from the single-launch tubes commonly seen on Jakkari ships in that they can be easily reloaded from internal magazines, and they are capable of housing larger projectiles with heavier payloads. Integrated into these twin hulls are front-facing torpedo tubes that fire smaller projectiles intended for more agile targets. Accompanying them are batteries of high-powered gas guns, including a pair of large-caliber 31-inch guns, the largest seen on any vessel. The role of a destroyer is to launch devastating long-range torpedo salvos at enemy capital ships, rapidly expending their payload to do as much damage as possible before the fleet closes into gas gun range.

Jakkari Fighter:Fighter craft are commonly deployed from fleet carriers and asteroid bases, where they engage enemy light craft and help defend larger vessels from boarding actions and missile attacks. The main body of the craft houses the four engines, fuel tanks, and radar system. While the front-facing engines may resemble air intakes, these are actually thrusters used for deceleration and maneuvering in vacuum.Connected via the wings are dual crew pods, with one housing the pilot and the other housing the gunner. The gunner is in control of dual gas gun turrets that can be used to defend the craft, along with the payload of missiles and bombs. Jakkari are not very tolerant of high-G maneuvers, so their fighters are rather sluggish compared to their contemporaries, favoring heavy armor and point defense instead of speed and agility to enhance their survivability.Fighters are capable of atmospheric flight, albeit only when gravitational and atmospheric conditions are suitable. They would, for example, be incapable of making orbit or flying under Earth-like conditions.
