DESCRIPTION
As I'm sure many of you may have gotten the email about it already, Patreon is making a change to the way they handle fees for Patrons. There is a new fee of 2.9% + $0.35 for every Patron Pledge.

What does this mean for Patrons?

This screws over Patrons as they are basically charging you a bit more for your pledges

How Much More?

I don't know. And that's the problem. But it will vary based on Pledge Tier

Why are they doing this?

They are trying to ensure that they can keep Patreon up and running, but so that they can also give Content Creators like myself more of the money they should be earning each month.

To put it simply, the amount you see on a Creator's page is not the exact amount they are earning. After Patreon takes their cut, we actually receive a bit less than the shown reward. https://i.imgur.com/mfJDRMR.png This doesn't include the amount taken out from transferring funds to our bank accounts as well.

What does this mean for Creators like me?

It means that we'll now be receiving 95% of money from our Patron's Pledges. Which is definitely more than the 70-80% we'd normally receive each month.

This sounds like a positive in a black and white sense. But the reality is that its not.

The Gray in the Middle

This screws over a lot of small Content Creators like me. And here's how: For a lot of Patrons that support many creators, they are the ones that will get hit the hardest with this new fee. Imagine getting hit with that fee for every person you support on Patreon and at the many different pledge tiers you've chosen. That money adds up quickly.

And for those that have a tight budget, its only natural to have to start making cuts. And for a lot of people, this means they have to cut the bottom line which are the smaller creators. The ones that are trying to get by. And also makes it harder to justify tiers of pledges when Patrons end up paying more than they should be.

What's the verdict and what should Patrons do?

That will be for you to decide. If you don't mind the fee and still want to support creators, then take solace in knowing that they are getting more of what they should have gotten to begin with.

But if you do mind the fee and want to start cancelling, just know that all creators, including myself understand why and don't blame you for doing so.

I will continue making exclusive content for Patrons and I have a Content update coming for all of you very soon. So stay tuned!
