Before I forget, more fanart! Sehad continues to illustrate various scenes from the game and I'm charmed by some of their choices, especially this one. ^-^
Anyway, this week has been a rollercoaster. So many little things happened that it would take an unreasonable amount of time to list them all, so let me focus on the... narrative arc of my work, so to speak.
There was one big disappointment last week: an agent who had a full manuscript rejected it. They'd been sitting on it for over four months, so I sent a nudging email... and got a form rejection within 24 hours. It's possible that I caused that, but after having some agents sit on books for over a full year, I don't think it's wise to wait forever.
I won't pretend this wasn't disappointing, because I still feel that there are audiences for my work that I haven't been able to tap. Several months ago I put time into researching and contacting more agents, but now that I'm focused on game work... this may have to go dormant for a while. I might stop trying, because it doesn't feel like a good use of my time.
On the other hand, we finally released the first "finished" build of DStP to Kickstarter backers! There's still a list of things the coder needs to do, and I'm sure there will be more changes in response to feedback, but... this is a milestone. We've wrapped up all the main worlds and all nine animations before the Kickstarter turned a year old. I'm not sure how much time remains, and there will no doubt be complications in the future, but this is still a nice accomplishment.
Though this all took some time, I was able to put more effort into Omnipocalypse again compared to last week. Progress continues along multiple axes: sometimes improving features, sometimes setting up more content, sometimes testing. Hard to judge how long everything will take, but it feels good to make progress.
Turning back negative, I have other draws on my time unfortunately coming up. Audible set the next audiobook release later this month, so I'll need to set up the corresponding ebook and jump through some promotion hoops. This stuff will unfortunately slow me down. =/
However, as I was feeling lousy, thinking about agents and work to come, I was instead filled with a strong sense of how fortunate I am to have a career like this. Not everything is sunshine and daisies, but it's still an amazing privilege to be able to spend my time on creative work. ^-^
I continue to try to take on everything, because I'm always hungry to do more! I want to finish up more of these things, both to thank everyone for supporting me and for my own sake, because this career has been deeply rewarding.
So... can I pour enough time into Omnipocalypse to finish version 0.2.0 before the Audible release and other tasks cut into my time again? Unknown, but I'll try!
