Thanks to L'Fise's primer on what to do, and a promise he'd check her work, Muur hadn't wasted a second in hurrying over to the clerk in charge of the whole affair. Orliane was, of course, right behind her to ‘help things along’... Even if really all she wanted was to get away from the paperwork.

“Twins’ blessings.” By following the catman's directions, the pair came out of the catacombs and into a massive warehouse of sorts. The robes of the Order of the Thaumaturges were few and far between as they approached what looked to be a welcoming desk, most people were wearing simple work clothes, and the robes of the clergy were heavily slanted towards the white of the Order of Nald, rather than Thal’s black. “How may I help you?”

“I would like to file a claim regarding the possessions of the recently deceased Capapa.” Muur recited the jargon she’d been filed in on the way here.

“Capapa?” the lalafel sitting behind the counter asked with a frown. “I'm not certain– may I have your name?”

“Muur’Zagaas Himaa.” Muur replied without missing a beat.

Taking out a ledger, the clerk flipped through it until he reached a specific page, “Oh, huh. My apologies you are listed as eligible. I thought only Void Hunters were allowed– Nevermind. What sort of claim would you like to make? Due to the nature of his dealings, most are restricted.”

“Transfer of one draught chocobo with unusual plumage to my care.” Muur said with none of her usual devil-may-care air or gallows humor, just serious and to the point.

Whatever the clerk expected, it wasn't that. But politeness, or duty, saw him do his job with only minimal gawking, “I… see? I don't believe the recovered animals have been flagged as ineligible, give me a moment to contact the expert in charge of them.” Having said that, he took out a case filled with a dozen or so crystals that sparkled like pearls. After singling out one of them, he attached it to his ear and whispered a few words into it before returning it to the case, “He will be here shortly.”

Rather than say anything that could help the two initiates make sense of what exactly was going on. The clerk went back to his work.

“Soooo… what did you do?” which was how Orliane found herself asking the question hovering above the pair.

“Be enough of a trouble magnet that someone somewhere had the mental forewithal to jot me down as having similar permissions to a Void Hunter, given the stuff I keep running into.” Muur shrugged, not about to launch into a talk of just what she’d run into. Sensitive topic on way too many levels.

“Riiiight.” Her roommate gave her a small side eye, before shrugging herself, “I'm pretty sure there's something more to it. But so long as those troubles don't show up in our room, I don't really care.”

While it felt that the girl was maybe a bit too flippant about Muur's apparent situation—and had just given Muur the mental image of Himiko sending a murderous forget-me-not to their dorm room—, there wasn't much time to dwell on it. Not when something that the lizard hadn't expected to see again for a long, long time approached them, “Good day to you two. You are the ones here to see the chocobo, no?”

Nothing about it matched the one she knew. Not the height, nor the robes, voice and certainly not the build! But there, right in front of Muur was a Baanga belonging to the Order of Nald’Thal.

“Aye, that we are.” Muur replied without missing a beat.

The strange pseudo-reptile offered a small nod at that, “Then, please follow me.” Turning on their heels, they quickly began to guide Muur and Orliane through a new set of tunnels and paths. Albeit ones that were used by more than just the clergy, one of the city's underground districts, perhaps?

“I am glad to know that someone is willing to attempt to care for the poor thing.” The small walk was filled with just as small talks, but as the chat went on Muur came to be relatively sure that her guide was a female member of her teacher's species. It was hard to judge bone structure with all the robes, so she’d had to gauge by voice more than anything else, “It's more than I was expecting when I was told to look over all those animals.”

“It’s a bit of a tradition back home to tame giant birds of prey, and while Chocobos are herbivores, this one certainly has the spirit of a Yol from what I’ve seen and read.” Muur explained with a soft chuckle. Dusk Mother help her, this was going to be an undertaking.

At least she knew exactly who to turn to for advice in this, it was just a matter of finding that mountain of a man again.

“Common misconception amongst new arrivals in Eorzea,” Shaking her head slightly, the numerous earrings of the woman jingled slightly, “Chocobos are not herbivores. They are omnivores, they are as keen about eating smaller pests like rodents, larger insects or even fishes if given the chance, as they are to feast on a diet of grain and vegetables. Most tamed ones are fed an herbivore diet as it is cheap and more than sufficient for most animals. But those on farms play a larger role than mere mounts or beasts of burden. A wild animal like this one more than likely ate his fair share of would be egg-snatchers, or chick-killers, as part of his flock.”

“Well, that’ll definitely make things easier on me, although I was already planning to get in touch with a Chocobo Keeper to make sure I did everything by the book. More used to horses, honestly.” Muur said with a small shrug, making a mental note to see if any wasps were still around to become Chocobo feed. She was sure it’d be great enrichment.

“Oh, you already know about the deal the temple has with the Manderville Chocobo Keepers?” A look of pleased surprise found its way across the woman's face, “That's good to hear. So's the fact you’ve worked with animals in the past. I've heard of horses from my parents— as second generation Baanga, I was born here in Ul’dah. But far too many people attempt to care for an animal or a pet, only to find themselves unable to deal with the responsibility. Which forces the Shelter of Saint Tampapa to step in, it's where we're being headed.”

“Saint Tampapa?” Up until now, Orliane had been her teenage self. Only paying half attention and bobbing her head to a tune only she could hear, but the mention of a Saint caught her focus, “I don't think I ever heard of them… or that shelter.”

“I wouldn't expect you to.” Rather than be angry, or annoyed at the girl's ignorance. The Baanga simply shrugged, “In the grand scheme of things, he was a very minor Saint. More of a follower of Nophica besides, but by his work did the trade of animals and pets flourish. During his last years he created and operated a small animal shelter, which he donated to the Order of Nald upon his death. Over time, it grew into what it is now.”

As if she'd been timing her explanation, the three reached their destination right as she finished. As the door was pushed open, the scent of animals slapped Muur’s nose. It wasn't a bad smell, merely a potent one… although considering the look on her roommate’s face, maybe her reincarnation had come with a slightly unexpected perk?

Not that it mattered much right now, the last few corners separating her from her bird were far too busy spent wondering what state the poor animal was in. She couldn't imagine he'd gotten better than the last time she saw him.

“I have to warn you. He is in a bad shape.” Sensing Muur’s tension, the Baanga spoke up as she unlocked a door, “The enclosure he was kept in was far too small for him, and he's refused to eat due to separation anxiety.”

Finally seeing the chocobo she'd decided would be hers to care for, Muur decided that she'd study every single hell in detail, just so she could petition whoever was in charge of the one he was in to put in extra elbow grease into the bastard’s punishment.
