A last cruel farewell from the cold season. Just as the first subtle rays of sun kiss the frozen earth, this peculiar fungus readies itself to strive for the heights – with deadly intent. Not out of malice, but simply to hunt, it responds to seismic signals from above. Finally, when its game toddles along, the cap of winter’s lance emerges – fast and precise. And just as swiftly as it rises, it melts away, leaving its prey to rot – not only to lure unsuspecting scavengers, but also to drench the soil with sustenance for the next generation of spores.
