Hello everyone! I'm back from Japan now, had a great time with my buds while I was over there.
I'm hoping to resume posts soon but I do want to take a moment to mention a topic that may affect some things as a result of the recent trip.
TLDR will be at the bottom.I came back with the flu, nothing major, starting to feel better now. Should be fine in a couple more days.I also came back with some R18 doujin from Japan while I was shopping around Akihabara, which unfortunately, the country I live in did not find acceptable to be brought in to the country.
Because they had characters considered to be underage.
They were all wrapped up still so I didn't know what they had in them content-wise.
But because of this, I had my phone seized and checked for anything similar. Of which there was... (R18 artist btw been on the internet a long time)
I follow a lot of artists over on Twitter and whenever I see their works I tend to save them to my phone while I scroll, I think that's fairly common.
But having been doing so over the course of several years, I had roughly 14 to 15 thousand images from twt that they had to check through, THIS TOOK A LONG ASS TIME.I was stuck in the terminal for hours, it was awful.
Also had some of my own works on there. But regardless, they took my phone so that's gone now.Along with all the photos I took during the trip, so I haven't been doing too well honestly.Only ones I have are the ones I sent to friends/family, and on twt.I really should've backed up my stuff on the cloud but I was being a little too old fashioned I guess.
Been pretty stressed out since I imagine the art they didn't like was characters from either Blue Archive or some similar series where the characters are students. I also follow a lot of artists that simply tend to draw characters in a petite style.I do not know what they didn't like specifically, or how much there was they didn't like.
I think trying to police this kind of thing in the art field is an insane task but they have some sort of guideline they follow. I just don't know what that is exactly/how they identify a character outside of them 'wearing a school uniform' or 'having student x teacher relations' was what one of the border security told me. (Roleplay is dead too I guess)Some of the R18 books I got to keep had me scratching my head because one of them had a petite character in it but that one was fine apparently since I guess they weren't wearing a uniform. Wild.
So in Australia, as well as places like the UK as I'm now also recently hearing about, they deem this as the same level of serious offence as having pornographic images of a real underage person.Even if it's just a drawing.So I have no idea if I'm going to be in actual serious legal trouble because of some art books. But I haven't heard anything else from them since I left the airport so.All I can do right now is wait.Going to be trying to get back to my normal routine till I find out what's going on exactly.Still need to tackle my duties outside of art.But expect some more pieces this month if I can find the drive.
I do want to be transparent with you all since I may find myself too out of sorts to update if anything actually bad is going down that I need to deal with because of this.
They could shut me down, they could take all my devices, I don't know. Either way. We keep moving.
