Hey everyone, we're back with another character reveal for Murders & Mistresses. Meet Lou & her a-little-too-honest diary entries from a couple of years before the events of M&M…
New journal! New book smell!
I dread to think how many of you I've filled with all my weird thoughts throughout my life (I actually know, I can see all of you lining my bookshelf)... Maybe I should put them in a safe somewhere?
Then again… Who would care about my thoughts?
Anyway! Here is my first entry!
So, super exciting news, diary, I just took a new job at, get this, the local police precinct! No, I'm not a cop, don't get snarky, I'm just a PA—so, not too different from my last job, but I expect the clientele will be better to deal with. I couldn't take doing college admin anymore.
My first day is tomorrow and I'm sooo nervous! Cops make me stupidly anxious, like I'm going to just start committing crime in front of them or something and then they'll have to put me in cuffs and put me in a cell and… well, I dunno, that's a whole mess of thoughts and feelings that I've covered extensively in your brethren.
God, just doing the interview was hard. The Captain, Maxwell, my new boss, reminds me of my old principle. Stern and strict, but also really nice. He made me feel safe, so I think it'll all be okay.
Mom and dad are happy for me, but I know they're wondering when I'm going to get a "proper" job. I don't know. There's not much work out there for an environmental scientist, not unless you have the right connections, and disappearing to Antarctica is less appealing to me than it used to be…
Anyway, I should get some sleep. My first day is tomorrow and I need to make sure I get my 6 hours!
GOODNIGHT!
Entry 2
Oh yeah, I should say that I don't bother dating my entries, journal, just setting up expectations.
PHEW! That was my first day and I'm EXHAUSTED. Maxwell's diary is a mess! Who knew police captains had to have so many meetings? I didn't!
I met some of the other detectives as well and here's my first impressions:Andre: Nice guy, but a bit try hard. Still, he made me laugh.
Griffin: Quiet and serious. Don't think I'll be talking to him a lot.
Kaylah: So sweet! She was just so nice and supportive to me—she's some kind of tech wizard as well!
Victoria: Scary! She reminds me a little of the nuns at school, except if the nun could break you over her knee instead of forcing you to do Hail Mary's…
There's also some consultant or something. He wasn't there today. That's weird, though, right? Apparently he used to be a conman or something—he's apparently even done time! Why's he part of this team?
I'll meet him soon, but I know I have to keep my guard up. If he thinks he can con me, he's got another thing coming!
Entry 3
OMG I met the consultant and he's HOT. Not just hot, his voice, the way he spoke to me, he made me feel like I was the only person worth listening to in that whole office.
I was nervous to meet him, journal, as I said, but I actually think he's a really good guy. He even brought me coffee in the afternoon and somehow knew my exact order! When I asked him how, he just winked at me and said, "That's my job." melts
He's solved a lot of cases over the last couple of years. I can tell Maxwell doesn't like him, which is weird because he brought him in, but I think the numbers speak for themselves, apparently. He's good. Too good to let go.
I want to talk to him some more, get to know him better. I bet he's full of amazing stories and I just want that voice to tell them all to me slowly, over a bottle of Shiraz.
He has amazing eyes.
I liked his hair as well…
I need to go take care of something, journal.
