"My dearest love,
I've rewritten these vows an embarrassing amount of time in the past twelve months. How do I condense all the love I feel for you, the excitement I hold in my chest for our future together, and how crazily smitten I am with your rocking body all in 250 words or fewer.
Well, I can't. (But I'm going to try.)
When you came into my life, I was going through a pretty shitty time (apologize to priest). I'd just lost my job, my apartment, and my pet budgie—RIP Sprinkles. It all felt like my world was crashing down around me, and then, like a knight in shining armor, you bumped into me. Literally, and I sent you flying. Yes, it sounds like something from a cheesy romance flick, but it's really what happened, and after I helped dust you off, we got chatting, then went for drinks, then some other stuff happened that I won't go into details on with my parents in the front row…
I recall our story not just to highlight and gloat that I body slammed you to the ground, but to stress just how crazy it is that that all happened a mere two years ago. It feels like a lifetime has gone by since then (in a good way!) and suddenly, I find myself here, in this way-too-expensive dress, surrounded by our friends and family and just, wow, what? How did this all happen?
I don't think I've ever felt the love I feel for you to anything else in my life (sorry, Sprinkles). Each day is like a dream with you and I know that together, the two of us can face any of life's challenges as a team.
So, here, right now, in front of everyone, I vow to you:
To always stay faithful.
To shoulder your burdens as my own.
To ensure that in times of sickness and stress, I remain supportive and considerate.
To love and cherish you with all my heart, forever on this Earth, and whatever may come after.
To never give up on you, no matter what may come.
And to lift you up, to push you and drive you to be the best version of yourself in all walks of life.
These are my vows to you. If I've managed to make it this far without sobbing with tears of joy, then I have succeeded. I love you so, so much, and I can't wait to begin our journey together in marriage.
