[EDIT: I'm updating this now because Amjad just told me that his uncle is $2k from getting the necessary treatment – and because a lot of food has just mysteriously appeared in the nearest market, at extortionate prices, of course, so now's the time. I can't find anyone who knows how or why, but since the "end" of the "blockade," there have been a few strange surges of very very expensive food and supplies into Gaza, presumably for price-gouging and photo ops, but whatever it's about, it's food – (thank you all, M)]
In trying to approach a GHS site for food – Amjad tells me they're now referred to as "death zones" – Amjad's uncle was caught up in some kind of large explosion, still not sure if it was a mine or tank shell or what exactly, and he was blasted off his feet and broke his pelvis and spine.
Amjad & family were able to get reconstructive surgery done on the pelvis, but there's been no money and no opporunity for the spinal column. His uncle has been immobilized for several weeks now, unable to help his family or himself, because the bone injury to his spine is such that one wrong move could sever his spinal cord and leave him paraplegic forever, and we both know what that means.
Amjad's father managed to find someone who'll do the operation for $5,000 – though of course you can never trust a thief who says he'll pay, a lawyer when he "cares," or a doctor quoting a price – and the sooner it can happen, the better chance this man has to keep the use of his legs and his life.
I'm adding a Paypal account right here as requested;e this came from Amjad himself.
Thank you all
M
