“Far above the endless traffic and crowded alleyways, life carries on across the rooftops of an aging apartment block. Laundry flutters in the warm afternoon breeze, while potted plants and humble vegetable patches flourish beneath faded shade cloths stretched overhead. Surrounded by a maze of neighboring apartment buildings, the rooftop feels like a quiet sanctuary above the city, until it becomes the backdrop for a chase, a deal gone wrong, or a firefight between determined rivals.
With dizzying drops to the streets beneath and access points on both the eastern and western sides, this deceptively ordinary rooftop is the perfect stage for tense rooftop chases, covert meetings, desperate escapes, sniper duels, or a quiet exchange that suddenly erupts into chaos. In a city where every rooftop tells a story, this one is ready for your players to write the next chapter.”
Hey all,
Here’s another big map that took me a while to draw and paint up. It’s been a while since I’ve done an apartment rooftop. I think the last time I attempted an old apartment rooftop would have been during the first year of Frag Maps.

Quite an evolution in style isn’t it? 4 years later. That’s what happens when we repetitively work on our skill sets, we just level up.
The rooftop garden concept was suggested by Luke The GM, who’s been supporting my work since the start. I then merged some ideas with a video I watched about the city of Guangzhou, China. There are tons of these really cool rooftop gardens where the residents would do stuff like hang their bed sheets and tend to vegetable gardens. I find that quite intriguing because there’s nothing like that in Australia. In fact, with the majority of apartments where I live, we’re not even allowed up on the roof!
Anyways, I hope you all have fun with this one. Let me know in the comments below how you’re gonna run with this battle map. I’m keen to hear!
Map Variants
Collapsed Floor
A long section of the rooftop has given way, the concrete slab buckled and dropped into the building below. Jagged breaks in the structure and exposed rebar create a dangerous gap that forces movement to slow, reroute, or risk a desperate leap across unstable ground.
Apartment on Fire
Thick black smoke pours out from the upper floors, spilling upward and rolling across the rooftop in heavy waves. Heat pushes through the air, turning sections of the roof into increasingly hostile ground as visibility drops and movement becomes harder to control. What starts as background damage quickly becomes a shifting hazard that shapes every decision made on the roof.
Clothesline Maze
Laundry lines crisscross the rooftop like a shifting barrier, packed with hanging sheets and clothes that break sightlines and split movement into tight lanes. Figures flicker in and out between the fabric, turning the space into a close-quarters maze where positioning matters as much as reflex.
The Herbalist Shop
An Asian herbalist grows his own herbs in disciplined clusters above the city, with bundles hanging to dry and neatly labeled bottles lining wooden shelves, offering simple remedies for coin or favors—but a few unlabeled vials hint the garden may be a front for something far more synthetic.
