Kate joined the siblings later on, not because she shared the purpose of their journey, and not even out of curiosity about it, but because she believes she has a debt to repay. The sooner it’s settled, the sooner she can go back to her life… if that’s even what it can be called.
She keeps her distance, following them more out of obligation than trust, and yet something about Lorelai makes it a little bit easier to stay with this weird duo. To Kate, every action has a selfish motive, and in its own experience, it always has. And yet, Lorelai doesn’t seem to fit that pattern. There’s something disarming in the way she cares, something genuine enough to unsettle everything Kate thought she understood.
