DESCRIPTION

What are you looking at? At the work of a madman, obviously.

This is a screenshot of the Blender session where I made the Kratos VS Thor series, and it pretty much displays the errors and confusion of my process. My intention was to use the low-poly models you see as a tracing reference, mostly to maintain the body proportions even with weird camera angles, and make also a wintery 2.5 D background I could have reused for each piece.

But turns out, Low Poly models lose volume when they bend a lot, literally like a paper doll, also, half of the time I didn't "record" the pose, and some of them defaulted to the previous one.

Also, 2.5 backgrounds require actual 3D skills to make and I had not the patience to learn them, not with the eons of time I was losing due to the lag.

Turns out, the Grease Pencil of Blender (the tool to draw 2D art on this program) is pretty stellar for everything but… actual drawing. Because of the lag between your stroke on the tablet and the appearance of a stroke on the screen, which is intrinsic to vector drawing and the machine figuring out the most correct way to interpret the stroke.

Everything else is better than an ordinary raster art program, like Krita (or Photoshop.) You can change colors much more easily since they're registered as materials, and there's no smudging of pixels when you use the deform tool. The 3D models have been of actual help and there's a galaxy of modifiers and effects and rendering structures in that program that are waiting to be discovered.

But the lag, those fractions of seconds that add up in no time, it really disrupted my flow.

And then I've decided with my hard-earned money to buy two Blender courses, one generic and one focused on Grease Pencil. Because if I have to draw on an app that makes my process 15-20% slower, it has to have its damn good trade-offs and I need to know them.

In this wave of New year resolutions, I've also decided to pick up again animation and do it in tandem with the Blender course, so to merge the expressiveness of 2D with the tricks of 3D.

It will take an hour per day, so I won't go silent for weeks because I've decided to complete it in one go, and I hope that the course will give me the know-how to speed up some parts of the process and give something like a nice cel-shaded background, a moving camera, and a lighting effect.

I want to make something never seen before because we all need some good quality animated p*rn in the bara-sphere.

Oh yeah, the rest goes on, the comics, the rewards. I hope to be more focused, and organized and have a very productive year, for you but mostly for me.
