The UK’s Online Safety Act and Our Infographics
DESCRIPTION

Some of you may have heard about the UK’s Online Safety Act (OSA). In short, this law was introduced to make the internet “safer,” but its scope goes far beyond that, it requires online platforms to verify the ages of people viewing content, even when those platforms are just hosting images or external embeds.

We use Imgur to host infographics for our mod descriptions. Unfortunately, Imgur doesn’t comply with the OSA, and as far as we can tell, no image host currently does. It’s simply impossible for a hosting site to check the IDs of everyone viewing an image embedded on another website.

If you’re in the UK, we strongly encourage you to write to your MP and ask for the Act to be reconsidered or modified.

If you just want to access our infographics, they can still be seen using a VPN.

What We’re Doing Going Forward

We don’t plan on changing where we host our images, but to make sure everyone can still access them:

From now on, all future mods will include the full set of infographics inside the mod folder itself.

This will increase the file size of new releases, which is why we won’t be retroactively adding them to old mods.

As always, infographics will also continue to be posted here on Patreon, you’ll see them here before any mod is released.

We’ll keep adapting as best as we can, but the best long-term solution is for UK players to make their voices heard. Please reach out to your MPs and let them know how the OSA is negatively affecting communities like ours.
