Hey everyone!
What a week it was. Apologies for not getting the preview out last week, I had to re-prioritize things that I'll go over in a bit.
But here's a preview of the set or at least part of it.
For those pursuing Naomi, you'll get this segment. I'm still debating on if I'll be making this a full-fledged mini-game or just a pseudo one, very similar to the "mini-game" back in CH1. I'm referring to the flashback MC has with his mom and the training. Without spoiling too much, you'll be volunteering this training segment with Naomi. You'll be navigating this maze, making snap-decisions. This is the part I'm trying to figure in; adding a timer. If I do that, I feel that makes it more of a mini-game. Additionally, locking rollback for this part is something I'm considering. Save scumming is a thing and so are mods that can remove that, but the gist of this is you make a choice and you stick with it, which I know can upset people. But then there's crowd B who want their choices to matter, but crowd A who don't like consequences. Then there's crowd C who don't ultimately care about either. But then crowd B...
Sorry, my brain crashed processing the scenario. It's a whole ouroboros of a situation trying to navigate structuring this while also trying to make it not so annoying for the reader/player. There are many ways to approach and execute this. So, I'll be considering the comments as well as beta feedback. Even now I'm thinking for those who have minigames off, I'll just make it a simple choice with no timer. For those who do have it on, add the timer and of course you get the bonus render plus additional romance points with Naomi. That seems to be the simplest approach.
But yeah, back to what I mentioned earlier. Woke up and saw the render box was on the login screen. Usually means the PC rebooted, which isn't out of the ordinary because dumbass Windows likes to update when it wants. Didn't think anything of it and just logged back in and resumed the render queue. Few hours later, got done with a batch of renders, I noticed it was on the login screen again, ok weird. Logged in, added the next batch and resumed the queue. Few hours later I saw it was still rendering one shot for 8 hours. Renders take like 10-15 minutes on average. 30 if its a bigger scene. Noticed GPU 2 was knocked offline. Rebooted, saw this error
One of the ram slots decided to be difficult. The motherboard is still new and in warranty, so I'm like I don't want to deal with this now and just removed the ram from that slot, PC booted normally, but now that GPU wasn't showing up at all. Powered down, removed another stick of ram, GPU came back online. Started the queue again, PC crashed. GPU gone again. Told myself I didn't want to deal with this now, so I just disabled the PCI-E lane and queue has been rendering normally since. It was a headache of a situation, all these issues in one day and I'm doing what I can to keep the ship afloat. I felt like (Stranger Things S5 spoilers) where Will was holding back the demons.
With my current fixes in place, things are operating normally. The motherboard is still within warranty, and so is the GPU. And in this market of GPUs, I'm going to RMA that as well just to be safe. Though I strongly believe the motherboard is the culprit. With the RAM slot and the PCI-E slot acting up. I'll begin with the GPU first since its the least intrusive to get done. I'll most likely wait on the motherboard til after the update, unless ASROCK offers cross-shipping. Meaning they send me a new board and I can send them the defected one after receiving the replacement.
I don't want to cause a concern, so I'll reiterate. I'm still able to render. No cause for concern, just keeping you guys in the loop.
Back to the grind. Please be safe out there my fellow humans.
