Hey everyone!
Thanks for the comments last week. Seems like that vid made its rounds, haha. Had a few developers reach out to me about it. We don't get a lot of opportunities to engage in conversations like that subject I spoke on and I'm also realizing a lot of questions get asked in other forums about our works, but people are asking other people...not the devs themselves. Which gives me a chuckle because AVN devs are the easiest to reach out to. You could ask us directly vs someone like Bethesda devs or the like. It's my understanding that every AVN (or nearly all) have links on their main menu, one of those being a Discord link. Most of us try to be everywhere, but it's just hard for some. I myself get so hyper focused on development, it's just easier to check Discord before logging and doing things I need to do outside of development. I still do try to make my rounds, but my attention is always getting pulled by something.
Anyways, back to development. Here's an example of an issue we developers run into. So, sometimes when I'm running errands and I'll browse around for assets. I had this kitchen asset on my list for a scene from the DAZ store and...I loved it. Then realized (after purchasing and setting it up), oh...this is missing the most crucial part of any kitchen. That part was my fault, I should have reviewed the asset better. No big deal though, I just added it in myself. I setup the lighting, the props and wasn't until I loaded the character (many hours later) for the scene what there was a whole other issue. Just a sidebar here, seems to be a massive issue with many environment assets. Particularly interior assets. It's like these knuckleheads don't know how to scale out their model. When I'm working with custom assets I'm importing into DAZ, I have a 3D model I reference for world scaling and fix things.
I remember thinking to myself... "There's no way..." then looked at the object properties. Scale was at the default 100%, so I didn't accidently decrease it.
Anyways, as you can see Mrs. McCreed is yuge. She'll have no prob placing things on top the fridge that's for sure. You might think to yourself, no big deal...just scale the asset.
Then the door grows in size... Door handle is generally the height of where your hand is, but here it's nearly at her shoulder, haha. So, I have no idea what these dudes are doing when modeling. but daz assets can be a pain sometimes. Mostly annoying only because I had spent time setting up the props on the table only to realize the disproportions. I just went with it, had the characters in front of the door and positioned the camera in a way that you don't notice how huge the door is.
I also did a last minute change. This lighting isn't bad at all. It's actually better for render times and scene clarity.
But I've just fallen in love with moody lighting. Especially for the underlying tone of this scene.
Anywho, that'll wrap it up for last week. Here's a preview. A slight tumble at her conference, but Kindra's already rebounding and hyping herself for round 2.
Keep the questions coming. Either type them in the comments below or you can DM them, if you're shy like me. I'll be answering them in two weeks.
Have yourselves a great week and be safe out there!
