Artemis - DevLog
A swell Monday (or Tuesday) to you all!
Initial draft looks great for this chapter. I've got about 22 scenes laid out. As I go through it more, that number might decrease or increase. Leaning more on decrease as this chapter is mostly tying things up and setting up things for Book 3.
Probably the most challenging part of this chapter is the "go steady" scenes for the romance options. Easy for the manwhore route, but trying to craft each scene so they all feel special and individual to the girl is my goal. At he same time also planning the party. I'm debating how well to contain it. During the home tour, we saw the various places things could be happening. The outdoors bar, the pools, some indoor areas. If you guys remember, that house wasn't the original house. I was initially going to use a much smaller home and going with this one added some opportunities. Learning from the Halloween party, I hope I can improve on this one better. Especially since the amount of characters is much smaller (I don't have to worry about all those background characters on the dancefloor and the crazy amount of Halloween props.).
My friends got me playing Palworld and they modded their server and saw this notification when the game starts.
I got some DMs when I announced I'd be doing a warning notice for when people modify Artemis' code (the game not the character lol). Some were concerned, "hey please don't block it. this one is harmless". Which, one: never said I was blocking mods. And two, changing variables is modifying the game lol. Which I've had some people complain to me about the infamous "Freeroam" bug, after which I come to find its due to people flipping variables they don't know what it does. But because it's default state is "False", surely that means it's gating something, right? The one that I got a few DMs about was the end credits not playing, where we see the photos MC and Kindra were thumbing through. Which I have zero clue how people fiddling the code fucked that up, lol. It's literally just text and a slideshow that plays after. But apparently modifying the game breaks that in some way.
Anyways, no. I'll reiterate it again. I'm not blocking mods, just giving those who do a heads up that hey, you start flipping switches (variables), you need to keep track of it because if something breaks, it's 99% likely because of what you modified. And if you're on Steam especially. Steam will back up your saves and the persistent file and re-download it back into your game (the persistent file is the curveball that will keep you saying "i deleted it but it still (insert bug here)", since that's where some important variables are stored).
When Artemis gets booted and it detects the code was changed in some way, you'll get a message like the one above in Palworld. Just a warning/headsup, because as you can see. I don't mind modding, but I feel people need to be reminded that they did something to the code and should consider that before reporting a bug lol. Which I want to say thank you all for keeping that in mind for CH7. The bug channel was mostly spelling mistakes and maybe one or two very minor bugs that were my fault. Everyone who did any modding did a pretty good job narrowing any bugs down to them modding. So, I think adding this well help people keep that in mind more.
Anyways, sorry for the long explanation lol.
Have yourselves a great week! (drink water and get good sleep!)
