DESCRIPTION

In this post I'll touch upon a different perspective, what it is to work with creative things and also what is even being successful in life? The last might not carry the answer you think. Be sure to read until the end to get those thoughts.I'm happy you're here! So sit down, grab yourself something that makes you feel cozy and let's dive into it.

What exactly is a hobby? I've asked myself this many times since music, film, photography and art has been my life even before it was a job for me. There was a place of comfort and also expression, but not in the sense I understand most talk about it.Take piano playing for instance, I see it as a language. I speak about feelings, memories and moments in time...but through the playing. Working with creative things is weird. It's a love/hate relationship for sure because there is a lot of struggle, doubt and an overwhelming feeling of impending failure....at the same time it's what brings color to an otherwise often grey existence. And not having a clear definition of relaxation kind of got to me after many years of constant grinding with a thing I love. Because, even if you love something, it can break you if you don't lift your head and enjoy other things as well.I've found the hobby...repairing, refurbishing and saving tech! Mostly older but also newer.I hinted you on TWITCH that I was gonna get something. And that something was....

A 52" rear projection CRT tv from 2004! I saw this listing for 45€ and it was a clear yes for me. EXCITING!

I rented a trailer and my friend helped me pick it up....we had to bring it up from the seller's basement and then up THREE flights of stairs to my apartment 😂 Didn't weigh as much as I thought, only like 60kg (roughly 130lbs). After we got it up I instantly took it apart to see what it looked like on the inside 🤓 (it had image so...let's see if we can improve it!)

WOAH! Look at that! And Holy shirt it's so dirty 😂 Inside there TVs are a big mirror which the three lenses on the bottom projects and image onto, which in return casts the image onto a special projector screen. SO COOL! But again, so dirty....Let's clean it!

Here I have cleaned half of the mirror and a lens so you can see the massive difference. YIKES! But that's just the thing these need some more attention than your regular CRTs and definitely more than your modern screens.

All clean! Crazy difference 😳

Before the image was a bit cloudy and a little fuzzy... but now (after cleaning and some very precise adjustments of the lenses)

Well, this is just gorgeous! It might not be high definition, but there is nothing standard about this. These pictures don't do it justice, but I can tell you it's an experience to play games on it and watching movies is like being at the cinema. Real light, no strained eyes....just...magic 🖤 Not bad for a 22 year old Tv!

Sadly there is a problem. These TVs have special tubes, kind of like electron guns that shoots a concentrated beam of electrons (Friggin' Star Trek tech hahaha). The cathode ray tubes (CRT) gets real hot and sadly in this tv they are leaking coolant...womp womp. So I have to try to replace them in the near future. MORE HOBBY WORK 😂😂😂 YAY!

As you can see, this is a hobby. A thing you can do for hours on end without even thinking of making any income from it, a source of focus...a clear definition of relaxation. The statement "It must be fun working with your hobby" is therefor very confusing to me 😂What's your hobby? Do you have one yet?Oh...that's right. What is it to be successful in life?I can tell you it's not about being famous, standing above others or about having loads of money. That's glorified bullshit.Being successful in life is about finding roads to happiness in life...in YOUR life. Anyone and everyone can be successful regardless of occupation, status or even which stage you are in life. Remember it's not about wants, it's about needs.I hope you enjoyed this read, and let me know if more projects are of interest....also....if you're in Sweden or Europe and have a rear projector tv you want to get rid of 😂Much love 🖤/Rikard
