Coming This Week to Digital Foundry (Week 26 2026)
DESCRIPTION

Hi everyone, just wanted to drop in with an update on what's happening right now at Digital Foundry in the wake of yesterday's #content meeting. The image above shows some of my further testing with FSR 4.1 on RDNA 3 after the initial benchmarks in DF Direct #270 using a Radeon RX 7900 XTX. I expanded the XTX testing, added RX 7800 XT and for the lower-end... well, it's got to be Steam Machine, right? It's fully there in the latest Proton update and where it isn't I'm using Optiscaler. Resident Evil Requiem above shows what I'd consider to be one of the better results - and it's so much better than FSR 3, even if FSR 3 is a ton faster.

Still, I'm quite excited about that video but let's crack on with the updates.

Oliver is going to be our man for the upcoming Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. We're planning a showcase video on the improvements vs the original, using the best console version (likely PS5 Pro). Full platform comps and PC review also happening.

Tom is still working on embargoed content, but thankfully had time to join us on DF Direct Weekly #270 and run the rule over Sonic Frontiers. We're still trying to get visibility on when the embargo will lift, mind you! A smaller sponsored video is on the backburner there.

John has his eye on Denshattack! but the focus shifts back to the Batman Arkham Knight DF Retro episode and as hinted in the Bloodborne PS5 mod video, yes we do have unlocked resolutions, 120Hz support and VRR working there too...

Rich (ie me) is looking to lock down that FSR 4 video as soon as possible and then there's a bunch of stuff to tackle. The BC-250 mining board Steam Machine has returned to my house in full console splendour and I'm interested in getting going with it. Work on our tools also continues. We are looking at new visualisations for benchmarking, optimisations so it doesn't fall foul of Adobe Premiere's constantly shifting compatibilities problems and we also need to hammer down changes to our customised version of OBS so we can finally retire the our custom version of the classic VirtualDub capture tool.

Will continues to power our website, also flying the flag for PC peripherals which we just don't have the bandwidth to cover on the video side. Hope you're enjoying the site and remember that all supporters can log in for a completely ad free experience.

Speaking of the website, our partners at Hookshot are continuing to work behind the scenes on key new features. We're speccing out a brand-new barchart system for PC performance reviews, while last week I saw a working demo of the return of the video download catalogue. The entire database from the old digitalfoundry.net has been integrated, and a new CMS for quickly adding new #content is looking great - all manual inputs are gone, links with the CDN are fully verified, while mediainfo (bitrates, resolutions etc), is all carried out automatically.

We'll probably post new video content updates here, but all the downloads will come from the new digitalfoundry.net.

There is the "small" matter of having to manually set up the last year's worth of content which isn't in the original database, but overall I'm feeling good about this. Losing the old site was painful, but on the plus side, the amazing Patreon response to independence meant we didn't need to delete the CDN (we pay more for storage than bandwidth). The new gateway should be better than ever. This feature should hopefully be good to go by August at the latest - one year on from independence.

I think that's all I have for now. As usual, please feel free to suggest topics, ask questions or... anything you like really. Thanks!
