DESCRIPTION

You went into the ruins of Eldwark for answers, yet left with more questions. It seems the spreading corruption did not start from these ruins, but merely spread to them. You move North, outside of the vale, and cross some grasslands, before seeing it.A cave, so malformed and uninviting, a wound that pierces the mountainside. Indeed, the few local travelers that weren't half-mad called it "The Earthwound".You'd be wise to avoid such a place, for now. But exploring further Northwards appears almost as fruitless. The growth, both natural and corrupting, is overwhelming, as vast jungles of tall grass and forests so dense than no sunlight pierces their canopy are spread all over the Verdant Reach. Perhaps, the cave system holds the answers...

Welcome back everyone, to our second iteration of our Broken expanse series, the collaborative adventure line I started last month alongside Kelfecil's Tales and Heroic Maps. If you've missed our previous release and would like to know what the setting and region is all about, check the previous post here.

Our adventure continues Northwards, into an area aptly named "Verdant Reach". Unlike the Unmoving Vale, there are no settlements here, nor will you find much respite from the harsh wilderness, and the ever-expanding corruption of these lands. Below we will do a quick overview of this region.

The Verdant reach

Verdant Reach is the most fertile stretch of land within the Broken Expanse. Dense grasses, shadowed woodland, and rare flora once made it a place of study and guarded reverence. At its heart stands Earthwound Shrine, where travelers prayed before descending into the caverns below.

Now parts of the land have turned hostile. Dead Flats stand barren. Whispering Reeds hide poisoned growth. Heartgrowth pulses beneath the soil, and the Broken Spire watches over Wardens who no longer remember their purpose.

Verdant Reach is the second release in The Broken Expanse, a location-focused mini-setting built around exploration, environmental pressure, and escalating corruption. Rather than presenting a fixed adventure path, this release provides a fully developed region to explore, complete with interconnected points of interest and a featured battlemap set within Earthwound Shrine.

This material supports open exploration, repeat visits, and player-driven consequences. The blight spreads unevenly, creatures mutate, and the land itself reacts to intrusion.

This Adventure, alongside the regional maps, battlemaps, and pdfs are available to the Dragon Tamer or higher patrons. Thank you for your continued support!Rewards

The main point of interest within the Verdant Reach is The Earthwound, a deep cavern complex beneath the region, formed from an ancient fracture in the bedrock long before Warden oversight. It was once treated as a site of cautious study and ritual preparation. When the blight spread across the surface, corruption traveled downward through soil and root systems, embedding itself within sections of the caverns and staining stone and mineral growth.

The descent into the Earthwound is steep and unstable, with loose rock and narrow ledges requiring care. Deeper chambers alternate between open caverns and tight corridors, and blight growth thickens the farther one travels inward. Warped vegetation clings to damp stone, and echoes move unpredictably through the tunnels, sometimes resembling distant movement.
