Sharkboy bites are dangerous. They might make you stay underwater forever…
—
Leonardo had imagined this moment for years.
The ocean stretched endlessly beneath him, a deep blue world that seemed almost unreal. Sunlight filtered through the water above, breaking into shimmering ribbons that danced across the coral below. Schools of fish moved like living clouds, flashing silver and yellow as they drifted past.
For the first time in his life, Leonardo was scuba diving.
Even through the steady sound of his breathing inside the mask, he couldn't stop smiling.
In… out… in… out.
Every breath echoed softly in his ears while he floated weightlessly above the reef. His flippers moved clumsily, but he didn’t care. Everything around him felt magical.
A bright blue fish zipped past his face.
Leonardo chuckled quietly into his regulator and followed it with his eyes. The fish darted around a coral formation shaped almost like a castle, slipping between its branches with ease.
He kicked his fins gently and drifted closer.
Behind him, the rest of the diving group had been exploring the reef together, but Leonardo had slowly drifted away while staring at everything around him. Every new shell, every strange plant, every darting fish demanded his attention.
It was impossible not to look.
The ocean floor sloped downward here, the reef slowly giving way to darker water. The colors softened as the light faded, and the sounds of distant movement grew quieter.
Leonardo paused, hovering in place.
Something felt different.
He turned his head slightly, expecting to see the rest of the divers nearby.
But they weren't.
The water around him stretched empty in every direction.
His heart skipped.
Leonardo spun slowly, scanning the blue haze for bubbles or silhouettes, but the reef behind him now looked unfamiliar. The currents must have carried him farther than he realized.
Great…
His breathing sped up slightly inside the mask.
Relax, he told himself. Just relax. They're probably right around the reef.
He kicked his fins and turned back toward the coral formation he had come from.
That was when he saw it.
Something moved in the distance.
A large shape.
It glided through the darker water beyond the reef, cutting smoothly through the blue like a shadow. At first it was just a blur, but as it angled toward him the shape became clearer.
Sharp fangs shimmering.
A tall dorsal fin.
A powerful body moving with terrifying speed.
Leonardo froze.
A shark.
His heart slammed against his chest so hard he could feel it through his wetsuit.
The creature was already rushing toward him.
Too fast.
Leonardo's mind went blank.
Every documentary he had ever watched, every warning about the ocean, every terrifying story flashed through his head all at once.
This is it.
His hands trembled.
He squeezed his eyes shut.
The water around him rushed suddenly as the creature reached him.
And then—
Nibble.
A small, curious bite at the side of his neck.
It wasn’t tearing him to shreds. Nor was it crushing him to bits.
Just a quick little nip.
Leonardo blinked in confusion and slowly opened his eyes again.
The shark was gone.
Instead, someone floated in front of him.
A boy.
Well… half a boy.
From the waist up he looked human, broad shoulders, smooth skin, dark hair drifting in the water around his face. But below his waist stretched the sleek gray body of a shark, a powerful tail swaying gently to keep him perfectly balanced in the water.
The boy scratched the back of his head sheepishly.
"Ah… sorry about that."
His voice carried strangely through the water, clear despite the distance.
Golden eyes looked Leonardo up and down apologetically.
"At first glance you kinda looked like a fisherman."
The shark-tailed boy gave an awkward smile.
"Those guys I usually try to scare off."
He gestured vaguely toward Leonardo.
"But you don't look like one of them."
The boy extended a hand casually.
"I'm Girah."
His tail flicked lazily behind him.
“And you look like a human who just had the worst scare of his life,” Girah added with a small grin. “Do you have a name too?”
Leonardo was still staring.
Half shark.
An actual half shark.
His brain struggled to catch up with what his eyes were seeing.
“Uh… yeah,” he finally managed, his voice slightly muffled through the regulator. “Leonardo.”
Girah’s eyes brightened.
“Leonardo,” he repeated slowly, as if testing the sound of it. “Nice name.”
The shark-tailed boy drifted a little closer, his powerful tail swaying lazily behind him. Up close, Leonardo could see faint patterns along the sleek gray skin of the tail, the muscles shifting smoothly with each small motion.
“So,” Girah continued casually, “what exactly is a human named Leonardo doing this far down here?”
Leonardo rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.
“Well… I kinda always wanted to try scuba diving,” he admitted. “Just… you know… see what it’s like down here. The reefs, the fish… all that stuff.”
He glanced around the empty water again.
“But I guess I drifted off from my group. I was looking at the coral and… yeah. Now I have no idea where they went.”
Girah tilted his head thoughtfully.
“Huh.”
He slowly turned in place, golden eyes scanning the surrounding water.
“Well… I haven’t seen any other humans around lately,” he said after a moment. “So I can’t really point you to them.”
Leonardo sighed inside his mask.
Great.
But Girah suddenly flashed a bright grin.
“Still,” he continued, “that just means you’re lucky.”
Leonardo blinked.
“Lucky?”
“Of course.” Girah gestured proudly around the reef. “I know this whole area. Every cave, every current, every little place worth seeing.”
His tail flicked gently as he drifted closer.
“I could show you around.”
Leonardo hesitated for about half a second.
Then he shrugged.
“Honestly… that would be great.”
Girah’s smile widened instantly.
“Perfect.”
And with that, he swam closer… much closer.
Before Leonardo quite realized it, Girah was hovering right beside him, their shoulders nearly touching as they floated together in the open water.
Up close, Girah looked… different.
Leonardo couldn’t quite explain it.
The shark boy’s golden eyes seemed warmer somehow. His smile softer. Being near him felt strangely comforting, like floating in perfectly warm water.
Safe.
Leonardo felt his earlier panic slowly melt away.
“Alright,” Girah said cheerfully. “First things first. If we’re going to explore properly, we should get moving.”
He flicked his tail and glided forward effortlessly.
Leonardo kicked his fins and followed.
Or at least… tried to.
Within seconds it was obvious that Girah moved through the water like it was nothing. Each smooth motion of his tail carried him meters forward, while Leonardo struggled to keep pace with awkward flipper kicks.
Girah slowed, glancing back.
A small amused smile spread across his face.
“You’re working way too hard.”
Leonardo stopped, slightly embarrassed.
“Well yeah,” he said. “I don’t exactly have a shark tail.”
Girah chuckled softly.
“No, but you do have strong legs.”
He drifted closer again, until he was almost behind Leonardo now, close enough that Leonardo could feel the gentle current from Girah’s movements brushing against him.
Girah leaned closer to his ear.
His voice dropped into a softer tone.
“You’re just fighting the water.”
Leonardo blinked.
Fighting it?
“Try something for me,” Girah continued, his voice calm and smooth. “You have strong legs… but you’re moving them wrong.”
Leonardo tilted his head slightly.
“Wrong?”
“Mhm.”
Girah’s voice carried through the water in a slow, soothing rhythm.
“Try moving from your hips instead.”
Leonardo instinctively followed the instruction, shifting his movement.
“Loosen them,” Girah whispered gently.
His voice sounded almost musical now.
“Let the current guide you.”
Leonardo swam again.
And immediately something felt… easier.
His movements suddenly flowed smoother through the water.
Behind him, unseen, his hips shifted slightly wider.
His wetsuit stretched as his body subtly reshaped itself.
Muscle and soft curves redistributed themselves along his lower body.
Girah watched with quiet interest.
“See?” he murmured encouragingly.
Leonardo nodded slightly, focusing on the new movement.
It really did feel better.
More natural.
Behind him, his hips widened further with each smooth kick, his backside slowly rounding and swelling beneath the tight fabric of his suit.
But Leonardo didn’t notice.
He was too busy concentrating on the graceful rhythm Girah had taught him.
And too busy enjoying the warm, pleasant feeling that spread through his body every time Girah’s soft voice drifted through the water beside him.
Girah meanwhile just watched Leonardo for a moment as they drifted together through the water. The reef stretched below them in soft colors, the slow currents rocking them gently back and forth.
Then Girah tilted his head slightly.
“Are you excited?” he asked softly.
Leonardo blinked.
“Excited?”
Girah smiled faintly.
“You’re breathing pretty heavily.”
Only now that it was pointed out did Leonardo notice the rapid rhythm of his breaths echoing inside the mask.
In… out… in… out…
Had he really been breathing that fast?
He frowned slightly, trying to think about it. Something about it felt strange, like a thought he couldn’t quite grab onto. The water around him seemed quieter, softer somehow.
Before the thought could fully form, Girah drifted closer again.
His voice lowered, smooth and reassuring.
“Hey… it’s alright.”
The words seemed to settle over Leonardo’s mind like a warm blanket.
“Nothing to panic about.”
Leonardo felt his thoughts slow almost instantly.
“You’re safe down here,” Girah continued gently. “Just breathe normally.”
Leonardo nodded faintly.
“Deep into your chest.”
Leonardo inhaled.
The breath filled him deeply, expanding his chest as his body relaxed into the motion.
“And out again,” Girah murmured.
Leonardo exhaled slowly.
With the breath, his chest seemed to push outward slightly beneath the wetsuit, the fabric stretching as soft weight formed beneath it.
Leonardo didn’t notice.
He simply followed the rhythm.
“In again.”
His chest rose fuller this time, the gentle pressure growing with the inhale. Beneath the suit, soft curves swelled outward as his body responded to the calm instruction.
“And out.”
Leonardo sighed softly into the regulator.
The water around him felt peaceful.
Comforting.
Another breath.
His chest expanded again, the wetsuit now clearly stretched over the growing shape of two full breasts pressing outward with each slow inhale. With every breath they grew softer, rounder, fuller, rising and falling gently as he continued breathing exactly the way Girah told him to.
But Leonardo didn’t notice.
The mask over his face had slowly filled with water, the clear visor now completely flooded.
And yet he breathed just fine.
The small bite at his neck had opened into subtle slits along his skin, delicate gills gently fluttering with each calm breath he took.
Leonardo simply floated there, breathing slowly.
Relaxed and totally at peace
Girah watched him with quiet satisfaction.
“See?” he said softly. “Much better.”
Leonardo nodded dreamily.
His breathing slowed into a steady rhythm now, his new chest rising and falling comfortably with every breath.
Girah’s golden eyes traced slowly over him.
“Well now…”
A small smile spread across his face.
“You really are a pretty girl.”
Leonardo blinked slowly.
The words drifted through his mind without resistance.
Pretty… girl.
Girah circled slightly around him, studying him from different angles as they floated in the quiet water.
“Look at you,” he continued warmly. “Your hair… short like that.”
His fingers gently brushed through Leonardo’s floating hair.
“Tomboyish.”
The strands shifted subtly, becoming a bit softer, a little wilder, drifting more freely around a face that slowly began to soften.
“And that waist…”
His voice carried the same dreamy tone.
“So trim.”
Leonardo’s body responded immediately. His midsection pulled inward, slimming down smoothly as his torso curved into a more delicate shape.
“And look at that curve.”
Girah’s eyes gleamed with quiet admiration.
“They’re amazing.”
Leonardo’s widened hips shifted again, rounding further into smooth curves that balanced perfectly with the full weight of his chest.
Girah gave an approving nod.
“You really are a dream girl.”
The words settled deeply into Leonardo’s mind.
Dream girl.
His body finished adjusting itself to match the image Girah described. His shoulders softened, his face rounded slightly, lips becoming fuller while his features gently shifted into something unmistakably feminine.
Leonardo—though the name already felt strangely distant—didn’t question any of it.
The thoughts simply didn’t come.
Girah had said she was a girl.
And Girah was right.
She floated calmly beside him, breathing slowly through the water, her body swaying gently with the currents.
A quiet smile touched her lips as Girah looked her over with clear satisfaction.
Exactly the kind of girl he had described.
Girah drifted slowly around her, the water carrying his movements in a lazy circle. His tail moved with quiet strength, each flick smooth and controlled. He stayed close, never letting his voice drift far from her ears.
Meanwhile she just floated peacefully in the water, her new body swaying gently with the currents. The warmth of Girah’s presence wrapped around her thoughts like a pleasant tide.
He leaned closer again.
“You know,” he whispered softly, circling behind her, “there’s something funny about you.”
She blinked slowly, turning her head slightly as if trying to follow his voice.
“You always pretended to be something else.”
His tone remained calm, almost teasing.
“You acted like you were human.”
The word drifted through her mind without meaning.
Human.
“But you were never human,” Girah continued gently.
His hand brushed lightly along her leg.
“It’s alright though.”
The touch lingered.
“You were always a sharkgirl.”
The moment the words settled in her mind, her body responded.
A strange pressure moved through her legs.
Muscle shifted.
Bone softened.
Her thighs pressed together as if drawn by an invisible force. The motion continued downward, calves merging smoothly as the structure of her lower body reshaped itself.
Her legs fused completely, the wetsuit tearing and dissolving as sleek gray skin replaced it. The powerful shape of a shark tail formed where her legs had been, widening and extending until a strong fin spread at the end.
The tail flicked once instinctively.
The motion felt… natural.
Of course.
She had always had a tail.
Girah smiled faintly.
“A beautiful sharkgirl,” he continued.
His golden eyes glimmered as he drifted beside her again.
“But you’d never admit it.”
Leona glanced down briefly at her new tail.
Instead of confusion, she felt a quiet sense of recognition.
Yes.
That was right.
Girah’s voice continued drifting through the water around her.
“You’re hotheaded,” he murmured playfully.
Her lips parted slightly as the words settled into her mind.
“And aggressive.”
A faint tingling ran through her mouth.
Her teeth sharpened slowly, each one reshaping into sleek, pointed edges that fit perfectly behind her lips.
“You like to chase things,” Girah continued softly. “Sometimes you even scare people.”
Leona smirked faintly.
That sounded about right.
“But…”
Girah’s voice softened again.
“You’re also loyal.”
His hand brushed gently along the center of her back.
“Extremely loyal.”
A small ridge formed beneath her skin.
Then, slowly, a smooth dorsal fin pushed upward from her back, cutting through the water as it fully formed.
The new fin steadied her effortlessly in the current.
“And devoted,” Girah whispered.
Leona felt warmth bloom in her chest.
Devoted.
That word felt especially right.
Girah drifted in front of her again, their eyes meeting.
“And you’re such a lucky girl,” he said with a quiet smile.
Her heart fluttered slightly.
“All you had to do was meet me down here.”
The ocean stretched endlessly around them.
“I can show you everything these waters have to offer.”
His hand gently touched her cheek.
“All you have to do…”
His voice softened even further.
“…is stay underwater with me.”
She leaned closer without thinking.
“Forever.”
Her mind accepted the idea instantly.
It felt obvious.
It felt right.
“Be like me,” Girah finished softly.
His golden eyes met hers as he spoke the final word.
“With me, Leona.”
The name settled into place.
Leona smiled.
…
Sometime later, the reef was quiet again.
Girah and Leona swam side by side through a canyon of coral, their tails moving in smooth, powerful strokes.
Leona darted slightly ahead of him, her new body cutting through the water with excited energy. She twisted playfully through a cluster of rocks before circling back toward him.
Then she suddenly froze.
Her eyes locked onto something in the distance.
A human diver.
Leona’s body tensed immediately.
Her tail lashed once behind her as she leaned forward, ready to dart toward the figure.
But Girah’s hand gently caught her arm.
“Hey.”
She glanced back at him, clearly ready to go anyway.
“They don’t look like fishermen,” Girah said calmly.
Leona narrowed her eyes toward the distant diver.
Then she relaxed slightly, though her teeth still showed in a faint grin.
“You’re soft,” she muttered.
Girah shrugged.
“Maybe.”
Leona flicked her tail dismissively.
“You always let them go.”
“They’re just looking around,” Girah replied.
She rolled her eyes dramatically.
“Fine.”
They both watched the diver drift away in the distance before Leona turned back toward him.
Girah gave her a small, thoughtful look.
“You should still be careful about randomly biting people though.”
Leona blinked.
“Why?”
He smirked slightly.
“You know how shark bites work.”
Leona tilted her head.
“Oh please,” she said. “Of course I know.”
Her tail flicked lazily behind her.
“Bites are magical. Sharks can reshape humans however they want.”
She waved a hand dismissively.
“That’s basic stuff.”
Then she paused.
A curious grin spread across her face.
“You know though…”
She leaned closer to him.
“I’ve always wondered how it feels.”
Girah raised an eyebrow.
“How what feels?”
“To be on either side of it,” she said casually.
Her sharp teeth flashed in a playful smile.
“To have total power… and to be completely powerless.”
She shrugged.
“Just sounds interesting.”
Girah chuckled quietly.
“Oh.”
He leaned closer.
“It feels amazing.”
Leona blinked.
“Really?”
Girah nodded calmly.
“You can trust me on that.”
The irony hung silently between them.
Then Leona smirked.
“Maybe I will.”
She leaned forward and kissed him.
Just a simple kiss in the quiet water.
Shark boy.
And shark girl.
Together beneath the endless blue.
