Hey everyone, just wanted to give you a little peek into what I've been working on for the past couple of weeks. A much-needed update to Instant Dungeons and its procedural generators.
I've created a new "Building Layout" generator that is meant to generate believable houses, taverns, libraries and the like. This also meant that I had to draw several new objects to fill these rooms. This was quite the challenge for me as I am not an artist at all... but it was really fun! I dare say I am getting a bit better.
In order to make it all more believable, I also added procedural lighting and column placement. Now, dungeons will spawn with torches and braziers, and I think the shadows and the contrast between light & dark areas give it another layer of complexity and beauty that was missing before.
I also added a new dungeon generator that creates more complex dungeons; you will now see more paths connecting rooms. The previous generator (pictured below) is still in there. I think that one has its use cases as well, as it tends to create more symmetrical and regular dungeons that remind me of castles and the like.
Also, you can specify what type of rooms will appear on your dungeons/building/maps, so no bedroom and dining rooms on your ancient crypts (unless you really want them).
That's all for this progress update on the upcoming release!! I am off to drawing rugs, carpets, and more!
