good-enough parents — what do they look like?

Hope you’re all doing splendidly!

As you can see, the new video is now up. This was prompted by ‘J’, who wanted to know what the ‘perfect’ parent looked like. We talked about using the term ‘good enough’ instead. As some of you have noted, being an effective parent isn’t just about not being an abusive one — there need to be some identifiably positive qualities. So this looks at that. Part two will examine common parenting styles that don’t meet that standard — and why those styles are sometimes misguidedly defended.

I’d like to thank all the kind well-wishers who’ve written supportive messages over the last few months. As I’ve posted previously, owing to damage from nearby construction work, I had to strip my home back to brick and floorboards for structural repairs. Been a bit of an assault course. As those of you who’ve done major renovations know, however much meticulous planning you do, however many exhaustive contingencies you put in place, nothing quite prepares you for the level of mental and physical plate-spinning when the process starts. There are continuing issues with the nearby construction work, but in recent days scaffolding has been coming down so hopefully, after around three years of disruption, the end is in sight.

With my place sorted, I’m hoping to get into more consistent production now and start ticking off an extensive ’to-do’ list of subjects!
