Dear patrons,
It's been a difficult start to the year, marked with some personal losses which have taken some time to process.
In returning to the work, I wanted to draw together some big common themes coming through in the surge of conversations arising from the last three videos. The result is the new video on infantilisation — an insidious and ubiquitous manipulation.
This video is dedicated to Gabriel Fernandez, whose story I learned about a couple of weeks ago. For anyone not familiar with this case, I would let you know it's a harrowing catalogue of savage physical and mental abuse, made all the more horrific by the negligence of a sweep of authorities whose fundamental function has to be called into question by their inaction.
The current virus crisis is making for some surreal experiences — I dare say you're experiencing some of that where you are. Here in the UK there are apocalyptic stocking-up drives happening with supermarket shelves being cleared. Ironically it's made them very high-contact venues — which is what we're being encouraged to avoid. At the other extreme, we have politicians in absolute denial that there's any problem at all. Would be nice to see some more balanced behaviour on all fronts. We'll see where this thing goes.
In positive news, I'm pleased to say that Qualia will be doing some collaborations this year and has been designing some beautiful graphics and fonts for them.
I hope your 2020 has been going well.
Peace,
