Dear patrons,

How are things with you? I hope you’re safe and life is steady. The new video is up, dedicated to NemoUtopian.

Doug — QualiaSoup — has had to step back from our collaborative work to deal with a difficult time. So the next titles in the reserve list will be prioritised until he’s able to continue. This is a piece looking at the some of the mechanics of emotional blackmail.

Been a rough time. Lost a couple of very dear and special people including a longstanding friend and mentor from my training days. Incredibly insightful and skilled practitioner and wonderful human being.

We recently found out the town where we live has one of the highest rates of infection in the country — which makes the behaviour on display in town all the more disturbing. There now seem to be two distinct populations — people taking all the recommended precautions with social distancing, and people who aren’t. Until recently most people were exercising caution. But it seems that caution was knocked by revelations of numerous politicians breaking all the prohibitions they imposed on the public. Driving around to beauty spots against regulations, travelling the length of the country visiting relatives while the general public couldn’t even attend the funerals for loved ones. It’s sowed great discord.

As some of you have noted, there’s been another surge in channel growth in recent months. Correspondence has risen along with it. Aside from the 'living with abusers' video, there’s been a significant wave of response to other titles like ‘double binds’, ‘infantilisation’ and ‘fixing people’. From feedback, I get the impression that practices like infantilisation have often been substantially normalised in manipulative environments. People have felt awkward complaining about this ‘harmless’ ‘caring’ behaviour — behaviour that leaves them feeling stultified and controlled. Having this kind of slippery behaviour named and illustrated with examples seems to be hitting home for many folks and breaking its hold over them. So I’m keen to keep this element of the work prominently in the mix.

Anyway, I’ll leave it there for now.

Peace,
