In the script for this page I had only written a very simple note: “Various shots with exchanged glances, exhausted bodies, sweaty and dirty. Next shot: a tender, loving kiss.” Nothing too defined, but enough to set the mood I wanted.
In my mind I had imagined a sequence of small details — fragments of their bodies and expressions. But once I started sketching, those ideas didn’t work as well as I hoped: visually interesting, yes, but there wasn’t enough space or the right rhythm to give them proper narrative weight.
So I changed direction. Instead of many micro-details, I chose a double parallel view, where we see both characters while they gently touch each other. It’s a small gesture, but it carries a warm, intimate atmosphere.
Before settling on that solution, I had drawn their faces: tired, sweaty, but completely absorbed in each other’s gaze. And that’s when the meme moment happened. The classic “When you’re close to me”. I immediately scribbled the distorted heads, and the next day I made the video. It was way too fun hahaha.
During the refinement stage I decided to bring the “camera” closer in the first two panels, to show their hands in more detail and give them the right narrative focus. It’s a small choice, but that’s exactly where the emotion of the scene sits.
Everything after that went smoothly
I’m really happy with how this page turned out, a simple page but one that continues the romantic thread that links the whole comic.
If you have any questions about any of the steps, I'd be happy to answer them!
