Hey all! So I'm well into the makings of the next video, and thought I'd share a very small snippet of what's to come. The video, at the moment, is called How Perfect Blue predicted the digital age of Misogyny and Parasociality, which is a verrry long and working title LMAO. Got to put my thinking hat on for that one.
But, if the title doesn't give it away, I'm going to be analysing Satoshi Kon's Perfect Blue through the lens of modern societies outlook on stan culture, in particular how parasociality and misogyny mix together. Showing the negative effects being a female idol/celebrity that has come about in the new age of technology.
This is taking it from a Hollywood angle, rather than a J-pop/K-pop angle (though, I'll no doubt give that a giant nod), like many essays have already done, but Kon was very adamant that he loved all takes and opinions on Perfect Blue, and to me, the film feels very fitting with the topic at hand.
