Hey everyone, back with another video, this time on the film (and comic) Nimona!
There's absolutely loads of videos out there breaking down the differences between the comic to film, or looking into the BTS footage of the transition from being worked on over at Blue Sky Studios, to then DNEG Animation. So, I didn't want to essentially repeat videos that are already out. Instead, I wanted to look at the film with a different lens. Which is, why queer stories, or characters, often have to be watered down in order to be recognised as safe enough to release within a Hollywood space.
Now, in many instances, Nimona doubled down on the positive queerness, as seen through Ballister and Ambrosius' relationship. Other aspects, like their villainy or "problematic" aspects, were swept aside for the film. I talk about it in the video more, ofc, but just to give you a taster of what the video's really about.
Would love to hear people's thoughts about this one, I haven't covered a western animated project since the second Arcane video, which was over a year ago now.
The next video will be on The Summit of the Gods, as was chosen by you guys on the poll.
So, I'm looking forward to covering that, too. And hopefully, that'll be timed perfectly for a WHA anime related video straight after, around the time the anime series finishes.
