I'M BACK
And very happy to come back with an old favorite.
I LOVE Into The Woods and was just waiting for the right time to talk about it on the channel.
I figured that after all the chaos that was the last few months it'd be nice to ease back in with a show I was really familiar with, so here we are!
Funny story:
So in "Sondheim on Music" by Mark Horowitz, Sondheim actually mentions that there's no "Intellectual" reason he inverted the bean theme in "No One Is Alone," and that the point was that the bean theme was just present at the moment where everyone came together.
I like to think that that was Sondheim being humble? Because through multiple (and mean MULTIPLE) rewatches I haven't been able to find theme inverted anywhere else, or retrograded, or retrograde-inverted, which, to me, makes that inversion feel like one of, if not THE farthest transformation from it's initial statement.
It's kind of an interesting discussion to have about death of the author and all that, but I very much wanted to make it clear that that's how I read the show, what you get out of it might be different, and I think that's really cool!
