DESCRIPTION

Here is the Drunken Octopus release for June!

https://github.com/drunken-octopus/drunken-octopus-marlin/releases/tag/v2.0.0.1rc34

It is also available through the Drunken Octopus flashing tool.

This release addresses an issue I identified at my day job. We started to see random lock ups and thermal run-aways on our printers that were running the Archim, but not all firmware builds exhibited the problem. After a few weeks of investigation, we determined that the lock ups were not happening when the USB product ID was exactly 12 characters, but was happening when the ID was other lengths. There were other strange factors at play, such as the problem never occuring if the USB cable was plugged in. It also seemed to be dependent on the specific version of compiler used.

By default in Marlin, the USB product ID corresponds to the machine name, which can vary in length. Although this problem has not been reported in any DO firmware, out of an abundance of caution, this Drunken Octopus release modifies all USB product IDs to be exactly 12 characters, since this was found to be a reliable way to eliminate the problem.

The password for this release is "YearOfTheOctopus"

Other news, unrelated to Drunken Octopus, I have posted an Instructable on how to make 3D printed opera glasses.
