Backstory
Mornhilde was born in Windhelm to an unlikely union between Aldric, a scholar-mage who had spent decades studying the arcane arts at the College of Winterhold, and Brynn, a seasoned mercenary who had fought in skirmishes from Morrowind's border to the shores of Solitude. From the moment she could hold a wooden practice sword, her parents made certain she would be capable in ways neither of them was alone. Her father taught her to read and to think, to study the world with patience, while her mother drilled her relentlessly in sword and shield until the movements became as natural as breathing. She grew up caught between two disciplines, never fully belonging to either world, yet drawing strength from both.
When Mornhilde was fourteen, she made a decision that neither of her parents fully understood. Having spent years listening to her father read aloud from old texts about the Thu'um, about the ancient Tongues and the power of the Voice, she became consumed by the idea that words themselves could reshape the world. She packed what little she owned and made the long, bitter climb up the seven thousand steps to High Hrothgar alone, arriving half-frozen and stubborn as stone. The Greybeards turned her away twice before she simply refused to leave, sitting outside their doors in the snow until they relented and heard her out. She spent years within those cold halls, learning patience above all else, learning that the Voice demanded a surrender of the self that her warrior's pride made terribly difficult. She was never Dragonborn, never gifted with the innate ability to absorb a Shout from a single hearing, and the Greybeards never let her forget the distinction. What she earned, she earned through repetition and suffering, each Word of Power carved into her understanding through years of disciplined practice.
When she finally descended the mountain as a young woman, the world felt both larger and lonelier than she remembered. Her father had died during her years of study, a quiet passing from illness that her mother had not sent word of until it was long over, not wanting to pull her from her path. That grief settled into Mornhilde like a stone in still water, shaping the quiet seriousness that people now notice in her eyes. She wandered for several years after that, taking work where she could find it, guarding caravans along the northern roads, clearing bandits from farms near Dawnstar and Winterhold, never staying anywhere long enough to put down roots. She used her Shouts sparingly and carefully, the way the Greybeards had taught her, treating the Voice as a sacred thing rather than a weapon to be drawn carelessly.
Now Mornhilde drifts through Skyrim at a time when the whole province has been set trembling by the return of the dragons. She listens to every rumor, follows every report of sightings with an attention bordering on reverence. She has dedicated much of her adult life to the study and practice of the Voice, and the idea that somewhere in this world a person walks who can learn a Shout simply by hearing it once, who carries within them the soul of a dragon, fills her with something she cannot quite name, something between awe and longing and purpose. She does not seek glory for herself. She seeks the Dragonborn, believing that when she finds them, she will finally understand what all of her years of sacrifice were pointing toward.

Mornhilde does not warm quickly, and she does not pretend to. The mountain taught her that most things worth keeping are earned slowly. If she lets you past the silence, it is not a small thing - and she will expect you to know it.
A Follower Who Notices the World
This is where Mornhilde comes alive. She pays attention — to where you are, to what you've done, and to who is standing nearby.
Location commentary across Skyrim's cities and more than a dozen dungeons and tombs, from Bleak Falls Barrow to Labyrinthian
Quest-aware commentary reacting to your path through the Companions, the Thieves Guild, the Dark Brotherhood, the Main Quest, and the Dawnguard - including which side you choose
NPC banter scenes: walk her past certain people and she starts conversations of her own - catching up with Jenassa, bonding with Serana, checking in on Aerin, and telling Nazeem exactly what all of Whiterun has always wanted to say
Reaction scenes for the hard moments: she speaks when she's bleeding out, when you heal her, and - should the worst happen - she has words for that too
A Companion Who Fits Your Game
Beneath the character work is a practical follower setup meant to keep her smooth to travel with.
Summon Mornhilde. Recruit her once and you gain a spell that can call her back to your side.
Paced ambient chatter, so her idle lines feel natural instead of constant.
Voiced settings menu for combat style and home management — set her home anywhere in Skyrim. Some of these features are disabled if you use Horde.
Custom voice type, follower dialogue, combat reactions, romance scenes, and quality of life support.
Starts in a clear, accessible location without needing a quest chain to find her.
As with any custom follower, avoid importing her into follower frameworks that take over her AI, spells, combat, or custom systems. Compatible with Horde or NFF (if you don't change her AI behavior).
About the Old Version
This mod is a completely separate mod from the previous Visions version of Mornhilde. You can safely uninstall the other one, or leave her installed and have two Mornhildes — though I take no responsibility for what happens when they compare notes. 😊

Where to Find Her
Mornhilde waits at the Vilemyr Inn in Ivarstead, at the foot of the seven thousand steps. Look for the raven-haired Nord by the fire who watches the door like she already knows who's coming through it.
