Event Log was added in 0.18.1 at the beginning of this month. It took a while to put all the information, but I think it's worth the time, as it tells people what to do next in most important events. It also remembers important decisions, so it's also easier to tell which path you took.
Crafting also should be easier right now. You will see numbers - each of it represent the slot where you want to put the ingredient. If the information about the specific recipe is shown, you can also show only the items that are required for that recipe.
There's still one surprise awaiting, but it have to wait until May. There will be one new big event added then (With one new sprite and one new CG).

History button is back. You should be able to see some of the last few entries in case you skipped too fast.
There shouldn’t be a lag on a map anymore (It’s still not the best solution, but it should work for now).
