BeamMP Newsletter - Issue #2
Hey everyone,
We wanted to share an update on where things stand following the security incident affecting BeamMP.
As many of you know, BeamMP was affected by a security incident in March. Since then, our infrastructure team has worked to understand what happened, secure affected areas, and ensure the matter is handled properly.
We are continuing to work with various entities and relevant authorities to see the matter through thoroughly. Because parts of this process are still ongoing, we cannot share every technical detail publicly at this stage. That said, this does not mean progress has not been made toward bringing the accounts system back.
Unfortunately, BeamMP is also still being targeted by major DDoS attacks on a daily basis. These attacks are aimed at disrupting service availability rather than indicating a new or ongoing security incident. The team is continuing to maintain systems while this disruption continues, and it has affected the speed at which we can rebuild, test, and restore impacted services.
Following the incident, the infrastructure team has been focused on several major areas:
• Establishing the root cause of how the security incident happened
• Rebuilding the BeamMP accounts system from the ground up
• Maintaining core systems while ongoing DDoS disruption continues
• Testing parts of the new system internally
• Working toward restoring affected services safely
A lot of this work is not visible from the outside, but it is important. We do not want to simply patch things up and hope for the best. The goal is to rebuild properly, reduce risk, and make sure the systems we bring back are bigger, better, and stronger than before.
One of the biggest pieces of work right now is the accounts system.
As mentioned in the first newsletter, we were already moving toward a more unified BeamMP account system. Following the incident, that work has become even more important.
The team is now rebuilding the accounts system from the ground up. This is a significant task, but it gives us the opportunity to improve security, reliability, and the long-term foundation for future BeamMP services.
We have already been able to carry out some small internal tests among staff, which is a positive step forward. When the account service returns, we currently expect to take a semi-phased approach, with Early Access members getting access first before a wider rollout.
We know many of you are eager for accounts and related services to return. We are too.
We do not want to give a specific date that we cannot guarantee, especially while attacks and follow-up work are still ongoing. What we can say is that work is actively continuing, internal testing has started in small areas, and restoring the affected services remains the team’s priority.
Our current expectation is that the accounts system will return before the end of the summer, assuming things continue to progress as planned.
It is also important to remember that BeamMP is worked on around day jobs, personal commitments, and real-life responsibilities. The team is continuing to push forward, but we want to do this properly rather than rush something back before it is ready.
Thank you for your patience, resilience, and continued support.
