The idea to add animation came quite late in the production of this model. I think it started when I was rendering the image above—I suddenly thought, what if he could move? What if he felt alive?
That’s when I decided to give it a try. I came up with a scrappy idea: build a very simple, “dirty” rig, just enough to make subtle motion possible.
What I didn’t expect was how much life even the smallest movement would add to the character. It completely changed the feel of the piece. I guess I’ve become a bit obsessed with that effect now.
While animating it, I found myself heavily referencing the StarCraft and Warcraft unit portrait style—those small head icons with subtle idle motion that make the character feel alive even in a static interface.
It was a simple experiment, but it ended up adding a lot more personality than I expected.
Naturally, more ideas started to come up—like adding a simple framing box so it would work better for social media posts. That small addition ended up sparking even more ideas along the way.
In the end, it turned into a full experiment in bringing the character to life through subtle motion.
I hope you enjoy this first Animation Pack I created for him. Below are some previews, most of which have already been shared on my other social platforms. The blurred ones can be viewed in full through the Bear tier for early access.
