February was tough. Primarily, it was because I was trying to fill the gap in my brain that the Two Hour Track Challenge occupied. It's a BIG gap to fill.
On top of that, my day job is forcing me back into the office again, so I'm spending a lot more time driving in traffic and sitting at a desk in a loud open office where it's hard to focus on creative thinking. Frustrating.
Having said that, I feel like I'm making progress in recovering my groove. Doing stream loops on my Wednesday streams have been good therapy for me, but I definitely want to branch out into more interesting things when I feel comfortable to do so.
Big project this month is Quiet Space Vol. 4. I laid the groundwork for it in February, and I have general ideas rendered for all the songs, though none of them are complete. My main goal in March is to finish off the album and get it ready for you all to listen.
I started the album 128, which is music all at 128 beats per minute. I have a skeleton of an album done; seven songs in various states of production. Once Quiet Spaces Vol 4 is done, I'll start focusing more on that.
Finally, I took on a handful of small side projects that I need to wrap up. Always good to work with friends, but it's nice to knock 'em out too!
One thing I'd like to try is making some custom YouTube mixes of my music. One of my friends suggested creating Pomodoro-style videos, so 25 minutes of music and 5 minutes of quiet field recordings (or 45/15 for an hour-long video). I feel this would be a really cool way to not only showcase a variety of music I've written over the past 20 years, but also create custom mixes for people to listen to while working or streaming.
It'd also give me an excuse to maybe break out my DJ gear and give that a shot again? Or maybe learn how to mix layers live in Ableton? Lots of opportunities for growth there. Might not get to it this month, but I kinda want to test it out soon!
