DESCRIPTION

This is the Desert Road (45x34), a simple path through the desert! Not quite as rocky or as sandy as some of my other desert maps, but a nice middle ground which could do well for either flavor.

Oh, and you're getting a bonus variant for this one- I added water to the gully! I was planning on making a Stream version originally when I started the map but it slipped my mind until I was wrapping it up. Fortunately it was simple enough to whip up since I was smart with my layers, so you're getting it in addition to the Bridgeless variant! Score!

Simple enough, but I actually was a little unsure about this layout. Something about the placement of the boulders wasn't sitting right with me, and the smaller ledges on the top level were also rubbing me the wrong way. I moved the boulders a little and added several more, which got them feeling much more natural. The ledges got a few little details and moved a little but I probably should have iterated a bit more than than, they're still not quite right. Maybe a few more tiers of those small ledges would have been the fix? I think their orientation just looks a little awkward.

Many more boulders, like I said, the sorta striated ones that feel desert-y to me. I think they also feel like they blend in well with the contoured rock walls. Speaking of which, I once again spent too long trying to improve on the style of these rock walls and ended up changing almost nothing. The big difference this time is that I drew them much more lightly and a bit smoother as well. I really don't know if I like them but this style has to be the only way to draw tall vertical walls like these so I've gotta work out the kinks. Believe me, I'll keep working on it.

This time around I mostly stuck to the same palette as the Desert Gorge but I colored the tops of the ledges as sand instead of stone. I guess I was feeling a little saucy but it was a major time saver to not have to balance the stone colors with the lighting or worry about the points where the stone fades into sand. I don't think it looks off or wrong either, so I think this is a free corner to cut. Feel free to disagree, but I'm counting this as a win.
