The heroes take the train and a ship up to Landwick, where they hire a boat to sink them to the bottom of the sea just off the coast of Kora Island. There, they find that, unlike for all previous expeditions, the guardian of the Deep Place, an enormous stone statue of Mauori, actually has a hint for them to open the way. They manage to open the passage with only a little bit of deliberation, and upon entering, find themselves in the Icewater Mansion--a literal mansion that is teeming with taugger spirits serving a strange, muddy fish people. The fish people seem to be the owners of the mansion, with high expectations of politeness from the heroes, who do their best to not get caught breaking etiquette as they discover ornate keys around the place. Ciujn speaks with one of the taugger and discovers that their world has recently been overtaken by the fish people, and they plead for help with getting Mauori's attention. Unfortunately, the party stumbles into a breach of etiquette, and are attacked...
