𝐁𝐔𝐍 𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 3.0 ✧ Buns Upon a Time ✧🐺🍑🐰

Happy Thursday, everyone! Hope you’re having an amazing week so far!

As for me, summer in Thailand has officially started and this year is scorching hot, like, it can literally burn your skin if you don’t wear protection or apply any sunscreen.

The purple level is critical with high UV, and it covers most of central and lower Thailand @_@

So, my room turns into an oven during the day. I’ve been staying inside cool cafés all day since last week and only come back to actually work at night when things cool down a bit.

With that said, I’ve spent most of my time in the café reading books, writing, and drawing ideas. Including revisiting Bun Hunting 3 animation.

After that I had some second thoughts about the story and script. I’m not sure if it was burnout or drawing Hank nonstop for years, but when I reread the script I’d lost all interest. So I put it aside and worked on something else for a while… until today.

I finally found the problem: the script was too unfocused.

My original intention was just to finish the saga and make something visually pleasing for Bun Hunting 3. It had everything I wanted to see: Evangelion references, a chase, an abstract sequence (that I didn’t show you guys yet), and a fan-pleasing ending. But it all felt shallow. I didn’t want to spend another 5–6 months just to make a cartoon that didn’t mean anything. It needed a real message I actually wanted to tell.

So today I wrote down all the ideas and themes I want to explore in this third installment. (Spoiler ahead if you want to avoid!)

The Ideas

Billy is the only one who can truly challenge Hank in the hunt.

Making Hank’s life more colorful.

Meanwhile, Hank has to deal with the “big bad wolf” stereotype since he was a child.

His dad expected him to be big and tough, encouraging him to eat meat.

But all Hank ever wanted were good warm hugs.

Bread became his escape.

The soft and warm thing he missed so much.

He never finished the steak.

Instead he escaped to the playground and secretly ate leftover bread left out for the pigeons.

As he grew older, he learned to protect his image… or else he’d get mocked by the other animals.

The world is cruel to a wolf who just wants to live normally.

Either you act scary or you get hated automatically by everyone else.

Seeing no point in being an average wolf, he turned the stereotype into reality.

His father’s words haunted him and he followed them.

He acted scary to show everyone the terrifying image they expected.

But behind the scenes he was tired and just wanted a big warm loaf of bread with cocoa.

Billy is the first one who cracked the code.

He treats Hank as a friend, not as a hunter or prey.

And for the first time, Hank feels like he can finally be himself around someone…

And that's about it.

Knowing this has given me a huge burst of motivation to rework the short. I’m cutting every unnecessary part and focusing only on Hank’s journey and his hunt for buns. It feels so nice to work on something when you actually know what you’re doing.

Now I'm eager to jump back in the world of Hank and Billy one more time!
