I’m taking a short break from storyboarding Bun Hunting 3 today to do some studying.
Whenever I feel burnt out or lost (like right now, XD), I go back to the legendary Chuck Jones cartoons I loved growing up. This video essay is in my personal Top 5 because it perfectly breaks down what makes a cartoon truly funny: focusing on what the characters want, and the rules of what they should and shouldn't do.
It's exactly the reminder I needed.
While I know who Hank and Billy are in my head, I never properly wrote it down and often get lost and focus on the wrong things like the technical details or gags that don't actually serve the story.
My notes on Hank and BillyThis short, simple video never fails to remind me what I'm actually doing, and how to make it great! 💪
Hank: Writing is for losers who can’t remember stuff. Like... uh... what did I just say?
