Looking at Dave Stewart's colouring work on Tim Sale's art is a good reminder that not everything needs to be rendered, especially in dark scene with lots of black fill like this.
It's weird. Sale's art is the kind I'd have historically turned my nose up at. Like "For real? This guy is considered one of the greats? Why? Everything's so rough! The colours are so flat!"
And for sure there is the odd page where I feel like "Okay... that clearly needed a little more work" but maybe as I've gotten older I've come to appreciate more the composition. Story-boarding and guiding the eye to the right details, etc.
If anything I think I've relaxed a bit when colouring and not stressed about picking exactly the right tone for this or that highlight or shadow.
So it might come out looking a little more abstract, what's the drama?
