Glass Demons and Blobots 🤖
The Yelrorinians are often referred to as Glass demons. The “glass” part of that name comes from the shards of glass-like mineral that grows on them (just like hair grows on goblins). The “demon” part originally refers to how they are exceptionally resistant to heat - Yelroris aren’t more inclined to be evil than other species.
However, this misleading name has caused some prejudice about them, and the problem is made worse by Yelrorinians rarely travelling outside of their homeworld (Yelrori) to contradict the rather harmful popular beliefs about them.
This hasn’t always been the case: a few centuries ago, they controlled about as many systems as goblins did at the time. But then they had to fight their own creations: the Blobots.
While Yelrorinians can endure temperatures lower than those on Yelrori, they tend to get lethargic, or even enter hibernation if they’re exposed to colder temperatures for long enough. In order to integrate ice worlds into their growing dominion, they created artificial but sentient life forms, half machine and half blob, named “blobots”. The machine parts of a blobot constitute what we could call its brain, while the blob part is its digestive system, engine and energy reserve.
Yelrorinians and blobots worked together for almost a century: Blobots were recognized under yelrorinian law as first-class citizens, and they were indeed present in many high-level institutions along with Yelrorinians.
Why some blobots decided to secede is one of the biggest mysteries in “recent” galactic history. While most people think it was caused by a bug in the rebel blobots’ programming, some blame outside interference from other species - be it medusae, goblins, or even, according to some conspiracy theorists, dryads. Asking a blobot or a Yelrorinian about it will result, at best, by a polite suggestion to change the topic of the discussion.
Whatever the actual reason was, the war it caused almost destroyed both rebels and loyalists, until the Medusae Federation intervened. The Yelrorinian dominion became a protectorate, loyalists now unwilling to extend beyond their homeworld again, and the remaining rebels scattered over space, establishing a few outposts and offering their services as mercenaries.
Yelrorinians are only slightly taller than goblin on average. When they’re built, blobots have about the same dimensions - however, their blob part can expand to much, much larger sizes. Some rumors mention that some rogue blobots have reached sizes comparables to a small moon, but it’s never been verified so very few actually believe it.
The Kegenovian Heptarchy 👥👥
The Kegenovian Heptarchy, while not as ancient as the Medusae Federation, is still one of the oldest political entities of the galaxy.
Kegenovians are currently divided into seven families, each made of identical clones. There used to be way more than seven, but infighting between families frequently devolved into high-intensity wars. These only got worse when one family unearthed some old medusae superweapons. These deteriorated the DNA of whoever was targeted, beyond what even the best bio-scientists could repair. To this day, all Kegenovians are vulnerable to sunlight, and require transfusions on a semi-regular basis.
Nonetheless, a delicate balance of power was eventually achieved, and for the last millennia or so, no major conflict has happened. However, tensions have been rising with the relatively recent expansion of goblins: since the Daleon family let BIGG create a branch on one of their planets, the boost their economy received has been a great cause of concern for the other six families.
The fact that Kegenovians are all clones has led some poorly informed people to wrongly assume they’re some kind of gestalt consciousness. While they’re definitely not that, Kegenovians are still a bit puzzled by how much other species emphasize individuals rather than groups. Species tend to send twins or triplets as diplomats when dealing with the Kegenovians - it actually makes negotiations with them go smoother.
Kegenovians are even shorter than goblins, but are on average a bit stockier.
