Hello
Like waiting for a bus it takes a while then two come at once (silly British saying that no one else gets?) ... it's a double video week, yay!
NEW VIDEO NEW MODULE NEW TONES
The team over at Thonk (synth DIY leg ends) today have released a new dual filter, I just realised as I saw the product page how affordable of a kit it is for what it does too which is a nice surprise ... but more importantly the sound and features are impressive and it's been a true joy to create some mega sounding patches with.
It's a dual analogue (SSI2140 chip based) multi mode filter that while doing all the nice dual, parallel, series, mono to stereo, stereo in and out type things we expect from a stereo filter ... it also comes alive with it's in built modulation. Modulation of one filter from another filter, yes a filter as a modulator, which it does via audio feedback routing and also cross mod ('salt' style if you're partial to the Decapod & Winterbloom Neptune filter, or 'audio FM' if you know the Future Sound Systems Timbral Sculptor).
What's impressive though is the ability to smoothly go from cleaner utility style filtering, to oscillation, to saturating compressing inputs, the xmod and feedback but also the ability to modulate all the modulation too. Luke from Thonk was keen to point out to me during earlier conversations that really all the interesting stuff isn't stereo, for him (at least at the time) it was most interesting as a mono filter, where the other filter serves purely to fire up a load of modulation back to the one you're hearing, made easier by a nice set of normalising signal inputs.
Anyway ramble aside ... as I find myself in that sweet honeymoon haze of having just made the video - it's very good, check it out. And if you don't want one, but want to recreate the patches with things you have, as with anything ask me and lets have a nice techniques led chat in the Discord.
If the fact it's a DIY kit only is off putting, let us know and speak to the community in our Discord space as there's builders in multiple regions that may be able to help get one assembled for you.
Here's the system I used to make the demo, any questions about it let me know, always happy to chat module choices/uses.
THINGS OF INTEREST
I saw today that Signal Sounds are having an up to 50% off sale, might be handy for some. There's a sales section on the website.
I'm sure there's plenty of other Black Friday sales going on, what have you seen? Share it in our Discord :) ... and remember $5+ tier supporters have access to plenty of discount codes for Signal Sounds, Perfect Circuit, Clockface & Analog Haven.
I also saw that the Glasgow Synth Guild (the Instruo crack team of module builders) are planning a limited run of their Oct Tone sequencer, which I bring up as multiple people have been asking and checking in about it since it's been out of stock. Here's the post on Instagram, here's my demo if you missed it.
DivKid Drum Samples (free for all) // With the recent WMD Clutch demo, WMD asked about sample banks and hosting some free to download sounds. There's now a bank of largely not hi hat sounds I was playing around with for Clutch, those are formatted ready for the Clutch micro SD on the WMD website HERE, alongside some other banks to play with. However if you just fancy some drum samples to play with I have them in the DivKid Patreon Drive for you all to grab and play with. In the original stereo wav files I put together - with nicer sample names to see what's what, plus the WMD bits including the text description and properly converted and named files for Clutch. Grab all of that HERE.
COMING UP
I have multiple bonus Patreon exclusive videos from recent demos, they'll be coming at the start of next week when there's a break in new videos going up - I try not to overload your inbox with lots of successive posts, or posts with too much info (says me writing a long post!).
On Thursday next week at 8pm UK time, king of the Welsh tea bags in synth DIY kits - Dwyfor Tech will be launching their Cryfder dual VCA and tube saturation module, I'll be putting up an interview with them on my website, similarly to the Pas-Isel one we did and we'll have a demo video too as a premiere on YouTube. So mark the date in your dairies and join us to hangout and chat if you can. I'll be posting about it again next week too of course.
That's it for now, have a great end to the week, happy thanks giving if that's something you celebrate, happy last weekend November to everyone else. See you in the Discord as always!
